ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 2m 21d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 17/10/06 04:37 AM Share Posted 17/10/06 04:37 AM I am also a highly charged guy. When I get to the office, I out my wedding ring near the metal door jam and get a 1" spark every day. I use the ring to earth myself out whenever I am near anything metal.I seem to charge up easily, I think it has tot do with my clothing, the office caret and the dry air in the office. My car does not shock me much, its mainly door handles. The worst is a spark off the nipple...OUCH Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/29351-static-electricity/page/2/#findComment-450347 Share on other sites

Because you are rolling on tyres there is a potential difference between the earth and the car. If you complete a path to ground you will basically allow this charge to equalise (if you are not wearing rubber soled shoes, this will happen every time you touch the car after getting out of it).It actually doesnt have anything to do with your body building up charge, because you earth that immediately when you step out of the car. As stated above you can minimise the pain felt by increasing the surface area of contact with the car (ie your whole hand instead of just a finger) or you can get one of those grandpa strips to earth the car. You could also make sure you are wearing rubber soled shows (most are plastic soled). I often use my whole arm to close the door to increase the surface area. This is the main reason you need to earth aircraft thoroughly before refuelling as the sparks created can be 10's of thousands of volts which when mixed with fuel vapour would make for a nice bonfire. The guy removes the handels on the door at work. I got shocked when I touched the door handels at work all the time so I put packing tape on the ones I regularly go through. My workmates applauded my solution after I had a tantrum and threatened to remove all the handels....MG Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/29351-static-electricity/page/2/#findComment-450701 Share on other sites
