Some basic details:

Done by: Peter Luxton ABS

Unit installed: UniChip Engine Control Unit

Internal Engine changes: none

External changes via ECU: ignition advance curve, fuel injection map, turbo behaviour

External hardware changes: High flow Catalytic converter (this is optional)

Boost changes: Nothing below 3000rpm (to preserve the manual gearbox). At 3500 boost ups to 9PSI (from 6 standard). Tails off to 7PSI at 5500rpm (vs 5psi standard)

Igntion changes: Allows 8 or 9 degrees extra advance

Rolling dyno tests (all done on same dyno):

Standard XR6T:

claimed: 240kW (at the crank no doubt)

Rear wheel: 195kW

Standard XR8:

claimed: 260kW (at the crank no doubt)

Rear wheel: 180kW (!!)

Standard HSV GTS:

Claimed: 300kW

Rear wheel: 240kW

Modified XR6T (as above):

Claimed: 295kW

Rear wheel: 235kW

Damn impressive, and it only costs $1590 fitted!!! Extra $600-700 for the optional high flow cat.

Makes that $500 blow off valve someone installed seem a little rich, considering with the extra boost from this kit you also get a bigger pop-off sound as well as much more power!

0-100 times: 5.39sec

0-400m (1/4 mile): 13.61@178.8kmh

Now imagine changing the cams, the intercooler and air box, a high flow exhaust all the way to the back, bigger injectors, winding up the turbo to proper levels of boost, and whacking in the XR8's manual gearbox?! It would HAMMER. And then its time to do it all again with a bigger turbo!

Woohoo!

For the full drive report, go buy June edition of Motor Magazine.

Very interesting (and exciting) article.

All they have done is a cat converter and the unichip. Peak boost is now 9si at 3500 rpm and trails down to around 7psi at 5500rpm.

Boost unaffected until 3000rpm for gearbox longevity.

I believe that this is still only available in Melbourne at this stage - you lucky b^&S**%!!!!!!!! :)

about $2.5k will get you cats and chip ... 295fwkw ......

for all intensive purposes ... that is a real cheap modification :D

as per Ford specs 240fwkw to 295fwkw for $2500

so that makes it about less than $45 per fwkw

now ... if we look at [holden] ... 260kw of the R8 to 300kw of the GTS say about $25000 in real terms for the extra 40kw ... about $625 per kw

now ... if we look at "FORD" the GT has 50kw more (manu's spec's) than the XRT and in real terms for $25000 more .... about $500 per kw

is anyone following this ???

so one could save $20000 in real terms in the FORD market ...

a tremec t56 or tko or similar tranny upgrade will set you back about $7000-$8000 and the factory diff will take it ...

worst senario ... XRT say $45k plus chip etc $2.5k plus if tranny goes $8k ..

standing quarter in 13.6s for $55.5k .... that's alot of car ......

I'm booked in !! B)
