Without an AGP slot (assuming you want to connect to the factory ICC) you will have to buy a converter similar to this About $300 I believe.

woah.. 200us... you can source similar for $90AU :P

Yer.. didnt find it.. bugger

but never the less, if you use a VIA Epia board, you have no agp for ArcadeVga.. so a convertor is required..

Another downside to the VIA Epia motherboards is that they only have one PCI slot. Also only a few of them have a COM port which is needed for the OBD.

So you could only have 1 add on - TV Tuner or Wireless Internet or OBD etc. Not both or all 3. (Unless of course you got an external TV Tuner etc) but then you would need a USB hub, and again your talking about more money.

Guys,

If you want to use a little more modern setup, I have sourced an asus P5V-VM DH board, that comes with remote control unit, IR Rx/Tx module, onboard wi-fi, 2x PCI slots, 1x PCI-Express 16x and 1x PCI-Express 1x slots.

Board also has onboard GFX (but you can use aftermarket PCI-Ex cards too)

Board is micro-atx format, suuport for 2x DDR-II memory sticks, but single channel mode only.

CPU I am using is new dualcore Conroe (Allendale) E6400.

Board was (all Aussie $) $140-, CPU $349-, and 2x 512M Kingmax Memory $160-

Case I have is Silverstone LC-19, with std 120W dc-dc supply, and even I have been testing the system very well over the last few days, the supply is doing a great job.

I have anyway ordered new M2-ATX car dc-dc supply designed for this application, which is 160W.

I use 3.5"eagate harddrive, and Pioneer DVR-K05 slotloader duallayer DVD-multiburner.

So a very powerful setup, for not too much moolah, only thing I still need to find is a lowprofile hsf to fit in the case, which is only 68mm high.

I will be scouring the Swapmeets this weekend, there is one Chinese vendor who has a very compact but powerful all-copper hsf, which should do a neat job.

To counter the heat issues, you can use C1 wait states enabled in the bios.

Just another option, Panda, for the more serious carputer boffs :)

sh*t yeah, that's a powerful machine for a carputer. One of the downsides of so much RAM though is slow hibernate and boot time, although when it gets going I bet it flies.
