I've got to swing by the dealer this arvo so I'll see what I can do - no promises though sorry.

Apparently it's only a hairline fracture that I assume wouldn't be highly visible.  Only my persistent nagging resulted in the problem being found.

someone been jacking it via the crossmember tab??? :msm:

No I didn't get to see it, but apparently it was on the far-left side.

I must admit that was my thoughts when I was told about it, but now that it's replaced the problem is gone that has been there from prior to any jacks going near the vehicle (unless pre-delivery I suppose). :stupid:

At least now without the fear of a wheel or two falling off I can steer around corners rather than drifting :stupid:

Oh and XR06T got no pics sorry - but there must be a new TSB released to put anti-seaze on the steering rack rather than the previously advised chamfer & washer trick. Perhaps that may be the answer for you.

It all seems a bit hit n’ miss for the ford mechanics actually; spend a few days going through all the applicable TSB’s and then if you have no luck perhaps have a decent look at the problem and try and figure out what’s actually going on! :stupid:

Tab,

Had the whole front tightened. The Alignment bloke said that the nuts on the crossmember were loose, I said " How loose " & he said "about two turns". On driveing out I'm sure I heard a faint clunk as I was turning to the right. Will let you know after a couple of days as to the outcome, but I have a sneaky suspicion that its still there. I can't believe that it would be that loose after the Dealer said that it had been tightened. Have a sneaky suspicion that it may be the Rack. You can turn it lock to lock & there is no clunk, but this could change when there is pressure on the system in a turn. If they haven't fixed it than I feel that it is going to be a hard one to find, as it's intermittant.

In reading this topic I just realised that I never replied to my outcome on this problem.

The problem was found: Steering rack was loose
