OH I can fully understand you not wanting to be the one to find out first hand ! :tease:

This is why a properly done carbon / kevlar / core (foam or honeycomb) would be so much better than a fiberglass (with or without carbon skin).

In an impact the the front catch and hinges would hold but the bonnet would crush irrepairably absorbing a huge amount of energy (much more than a metal one).

But it would hold together because of the kevlar interlayer/s.

In effect it would be a very lightweight crumple zone.

BTW If you've seen F1 car crash, youve seen how kevlar allows the the whole structure to absorb the crash energy by 'sacrificing' itself and the way it holds the pieces together afterwards.

The core contributes too, depending on thickness and material (foam is better than phenolic honeycomb for instance).

Carbon by itself explodes on impact into shards and dust without absorbing enough energy to protect the driver.

savaged pic of the phoon is my car and believe me it looks better in the flesh even unpainted. weight wise it should be around 20kgs lighter. the trial fit was to customise the drip trays for around my difillipo pipework. going to look awesome when painted. also the vents look good from inside the car. mine should be ready hopefully by the end of the month then I will post some pictures. better check with shannons I suppose before fittment dont want to void my insurance. adam should have the final moulding for the bonnet in process now.

That bonnet looks heaps better than the original ones (DRIF6 style photochops)... but I'm in agreeance if they are going to be a safety hazard. Why dont they make them with a fine steel mesh to hold everything together as an inner layer? I dont know much about fibreglass but surely there's a way to make it compliant?
