Back to the topic....

I had my muffler taken off my ute last week. It sounds better when you are getting up it a bit, no drone when cruising on the highway, just a little when your accellerating.

It sounds pittyful when cold when the idle is high. Sound like an xD with half an exhaust???

I would say it's definately worth $100 though.

haven't really noticed any difference in performance, but with only 1000k's on the clock, I'm not really testing it.

Did anyone elses XR come with a terribly rattley section of the exhaust or heat shield? Somewhere around the footwell. I am reluctant to show anyone my new car because it sounds so bad.

I want to put a Hotdog ressenator now however I have to redo the whole exhaust. I have a well manufactured twin stainless steel pipes that will fit any BAXR6 T or no T. It cost me $300. I now want to sell that. You have to pay delivery though. It does sound great but personally I think its a bit loud for a sort of conservative 50 year old. The beauty about this is that you get to keep your old exhaust and swap it back later if you want.

Call me on 0417253961 if your interested.

Kept my old exhaust too, thinking of putting it above my bar as a conversation piece :D

hey guys, has anyone removed the centre muffler in an N/A xr6? Im curious to know how it sounds.

I've seen and heard an N/A XR6 with the centre muffler removed and a straight pipe installed. This is not a good idea the car sounded disgusting. The sound has a really loud crackle to it like some four cylinders get.

This bad sound is due to the twin cam head, no resonator and the exhaust gas running the full length of the car and hitting on the last muffler.

The reason why the crackle doesn't happen on the XR turbo is because of the turbo in the system.

Had the centre muffler removed this morning and replaced by a stainless steel flange to flange assy. Not only does it sound good but looks like its meant to be there. The guys at Hume Exhaust Albury did a great job $260 fitted and I kept the old muffler just in case.

Good stuff PSXR6 - specially liked the last photo - magic :)

I take it your happy then ?

Did you only pursue the stainless option - I'd guess mild steel would be cheaper again ?

Mind you that last question is coming from someone who just fitted an Akrapovic exhaust system to a motorbike ($1765 - ouch but it goes :) and the note is divine) - I can justify that on the basis the bike's my toy - the other toy I have to share :).

informed insurer about removal of centre muffler....they noted it down on their database, sent a new letter with the updated details, and no change in premium! AAMI, Lifetime Rating 1, 36yo.

Normal rev limited varied by ECU depending on conditions (atmospheric & engine wear & the way the car is driven etc). Generally, should sit somewhere between 5800 & 6200 rpm.
