Making An Auto Stronger

This is quoted from a magazine article for the BTR4sp

"You can make the S5 solenoid in the transmission command maximum line pressure but the problem is the rise time in the hydraulic end. Getting maximum pressure on shift is the secret to keeping these boxes alive. Even a handfull of milliseconds of slippage can be enough to stuff the box after a couple of runs down the track."

Now most lay people wouldn't have a clue what that means but ask your box builder whether he is still using the S5, S3, S2 solenoids to do the shifting of the trans. If he still is he wont get the best out of the box. Find one who understands this last sentence and it will will be of great benefit to the box.

Alot of the strengthening has to do with altering the flud flow in the box, not so much strengthening components.

The bloke who wrote the article was Mike Vidau from MV Automatics (08 8370 0430). I dont know much about him except that the stuff he wrote in the article makes good sense to the point if I needed work done I would consider seeking his services.

MV are over here in adelaide, they have done a fair few from what I have heard. A rebuild will cost you $2500 through them. Have heard plenty of good word about them though!

Kewish or Preston sound good but some of those that have been there and are pushing the numbers appear to have had to reutrn their boxes on several occasions; have heard reports of used parts being found in the internals and some fairly innovative use of a file in one case.

How about the auto tranny guy up at Dural - anyone had a box hardened/modded by him other than just the valve body work?

Dingah

Yeah MG has had his tranny done by the guy at Dural - Dominello's. Talk to MG, he swears by em and is running well over 400RWKW without issues. Probably the best place for NSWers to get their 4spd tranny done.

In Sydney there is also Vinces performance transmissions at blacktown
