I note that a lot of you guys change your oil in between (I assume) the standrd Ford services. If this is so do you:-1) use the same oil as Ford uses at time of their service or2) use what you think is best for the TIf its 2) 'cause you may be using different oil types in between will this effect the engine long term?Just curious as I also do not trust 15k's in between oil changes and want to know what the norm isCheersMike (ACT) Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/29071-oil-query/ Share on other sites

chooch Member 256 Member For: 21y 2m 19d Location: Adelaide Posted 05/10/06 12:00 PM Share Posted 05/10/06 12:00 PM I change the oil in between services and use full synthetic and the same brand always. I get Ford to deduct the cost of oil from the service and get them to use mine.So basically the oil gets changed every 7500km. They said GTX3 as it was a true mineral oil. Magnatec was the 2nd recommendation as it is a semi-synthtetic 10W40.After run in the recommended the 10W60 Edge.I'm still of the view that 0W40 would be better for the turbs as it matches the operatring viscosity better....but will decide post running in what is better. Synthetics can be too slipery and not alow enough wear for the bedding in process. This has also been backed up by the Australian importer of Royal Purple who only deals in synthetic oil.As far as changing early, a good synthetic will retain its properties longer and has a better chance of lasting longer (all depending on how hard you work the motor of course, I've left Royal Purple in for 20,000 in some cars and it comes out looking new).My oil change regeme and any car I have is:Dump the first oil at 1,500km to get rid of any swarf (metal fragments) in the motor, and replace it with a quality mineral oil.Change the mineral oil for a good synthetic at 5,000Change the first batch of synthetic at 15,000Then depending on the type of driving, and the car, replace the synthetic every 10 - 20,000ks.One thing is for sure though, I wouldn't trust the cheap, buy in bulk crap the dealers use for 15,000, especially the first 15,000. Depends on who answers your e-mail as to what the best oil is apparently Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/29071-oil-query/#findComment-454476 Share on other sites

Theserecommendations are for the engine after it has been run in, we do nothave the Ford specification for the running in oil, and recommend youuse the Ford genuine oil for run in.The major difference between Edge 10W/60 and Edge 0W/40 is theviscosity, the Edge 10W/60 is a thicker oil than the Edge 0W/40.Castrol Magnatec is a 10W/40 semi-synthetic engine oil which is athinner grade than the Castrol GTX 3 which is mineral oil based 15W/40engine oil.If you have any further queries, please call us on 1300 557998.Castrol Technical. From: BP.com Contact usTo:CastrolTechnicalEnquiries@castrol.com.auSubject: Castrol.com | Technical Enquiries | Technical EnquiriesDate & Time :23/10/2006 16:29:6Salutation :Mr.FirstName :MildLastName :ManEmailAddress :Mail Address1 :Mail Address2 :City :State :Country :AustraliaPostal Code :Telephone :Fax :Message :I am about to buy a Ford BF Falcon Mk 2 XR6 Turbo(4.0L Turbo).I would like to know what oil you recommend.1: To run in the engine2: To use once the engine is run in.I'm am confused about the difference between Edge 10W60 and 0W40.
