In most car stereo application the rear speakers are utilised as rear fill, hense the less noticeable difference, the rear is ment to give that surround sound type effect and that's the way Ford has probably designed the system.

One point I would like to stress is the way the speakers are mounted is very important, mounting speakers on steel isn't going to give you that sweet mid bass sound that most of us try to achieve. You need to utilise mdf to give you the a dence surface.

If you wanted a cheaper way out of upgrading your system, just remove all factory speakers and make mdf cut out's for the front and an entire new mdf parcel shelf for the rear and remove the lining from under the the parcel shelf in the boot, think about when the sub kicks the air bounces back off that lining and causes it to distort.

I am using Fusion Sound Deadener to sound proof my rear shelf at the moment. So far it has worked really well, the sub doesn't rattle and carry on anymore.

The Eclipse 6.5 inch 2 ways I have were bought from Tonkins Car Audio in Adelaide. But most decent car audio places will stock them. They cost me $190 for the pair on special for that weekend only. I think they are normally around the $250 mark. They are damn fine in terms of midbass. I listen to mostly rock and they are ideal as they are really clear and punchy. If you find them on special go for it!

I'm not really up on the technical issued with this but was wondering if the amp has the capabilities of adding another component to it. In other words can I add a 10" sub that I have sitting in the shed to it without disturbing the rest of the system?

Only just saw this thread, so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

The sound should be concentrated at the front. Because of this the better speakers should be in the front. Rear speakers should be (as meantioned before in this thread) used as fillers and there is no need to buy the best speakers for the back. But having speakers with some tweeters and midrangers can be a bonus. Subwoofers don't have to be in a specific spot. Mainly because low end sound is non directional.

I actually haven't heard how the premium sound in an XR is but it should be easy to tweak it with no major hassles. Before I trade in my Pulsar SSS I will be pulling out the amps and the Subwoofer box (with 2 x 10" rockford fosgate PUNCH subbies in a hypobaric box in a push pull config) and most likely transfering them to the XR6T when it arrives. I just hope the body panelling can handle the sound stress aswell as my pulsar sorta did.

the audio dealer is correct in stating majority of sound comes from front speakers. for example: when at a concert, do you stand with your back to the stage?? do you sit with your back to the cinema screen??

does the premium sound in the ute also include amp and sub?

question for the audio guys.

does the amp get its signals from rca's, or are they high level inputs?

 What sub bass is distorted by the liner please explain? Sub bass is non directional and sound waves propergate through mediums. Are you saying the sound waves are reflected off this thin lining.

what company has Ford adopted for its sound system. I see the AMP is void of labelling.

The main system is made by Sanyo but not sure on the amp and speakers.

Speakers are Pioneer, can't remember the brand of amp (it's not Pioneer). I'll check it out when I go home.

The Eclipse 7 x 5 speakers, are they splits? If not do you just use existing A pillar tweeters or is it worth upgrading them as well? I have some Pioneer tweeters sitting around gathering dust at home.
