My understanding is that Fords have been using the same Z9 filter for years and years and just had my first oil change, the 7,500kms one done and my mechanic to his suprise couldnt replace the old one with a Z9.

Why have they changed the oil filters on the BF. Its no big deal to me, just curious what you experts might know and think?

I remember simon from nizpro saying once that the filters on the BF's were different. It came about with the introduction of phoon valve springs ect, dont know if they phoon has the same filter as the BF but different internals might have something to do with it

When I changed mine I think it was a Z113, but it is just a half height Z9. apparently a Z9 will fit....just

The correct Motorcraft filter if you have the cooler is AFL 101.

I think the BF use the same filter, but this cannot be used on a BA due to the thread being bigger.

No, I just fell into that trap. I purchased a Z9 because all Falcons have been the same since the 60s. The new filter has a bigger diameter threaded hole so the Z9 won;t go on. As fare as space goes, the Z9 will fit easily.

Fair enough.

The Ford guy gave me a Z9 when I asked for a filter. I said not its smaller and he then checked and came back with a little one. I cannot find the invoice with part number, but he did say that a Z9 would fit.

I guess I should take anything Ford service says about my car with a grain of salt, as nobody knows my ford like a ford dealer.
