--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bought my V8 last January, did the usual mods, CAI, full exhaust and flash tune, but she's not hitting the spot for me.

Now thinking in terms of the verniers, diff, high stall or blower.

Wait on that's a shed more money and I may not get the ride I want!

What ride do I want, I want the kick in the back without having to carry a load of speed. She feels fine after 100km/h but below that you need to be charging around in 2nd gear.

So, change to a BF turbo with 6 speed auto. Flash tune it and get what I'm looking for?

Is that the answer?

Things I'd miss, the sound, the bulge, the stripes. The wife hates all three, so I may get some WAF for the change ;-)

Thoughts, am I making a big mistake, 'cos I fear I may never own a V8 again!

I've also posted this on AFF V8 section.

Ive always thoght if your a V8 kind a guy than you always will be, although heaps of ppl on here have made the switch to T's from 8's. Alot have made the swicth form Expensive Daewoo V8's to the T's and im kinda one of them.

I think you need to take T with the 6speed auto out for a long run, not a 5min run with the salesman next to you in ya ear every 5seconds, but a full day run to make your mind up.

You will be bombarded with replies on this topic I should think.

Endless discussion that can go either way they both have there good and bad points.

Mate for the ride you say you want you have the right number of cylinders - just in the wrong car that's all.

The 6T has very similar characteristics to the BOSS albeit that with an edit and some cheap mods the surge can definitely come on sooner.

I went from an 03 Turbo to an 06 GT and just love the V8.

I have always wanted a good V8 and it will be a while before I got to a 6 again.

They are both fine cars although my GT goes very well indeed and I havent had anything go wrong with it, unlike my Turbo.

that's not the reason I sold it though, I just wanted to try something new and my days of having a Turbo were a lot of fun

Its a tough decision but maybe get a Turbo from a dealer for the weekend as a quick squirt isnt really enough

Is your V8 an auto of manual, I reckon the manuals go better having driven both and I went for the 6 speed manual but in the Turbo go for an Auto. They are very quick

Mate there was an XR8 at the skip pan day, and you just have to drool at the sound. When 99% of the time you are sticking to the limit the bent 8 is the answer. I would not be in a rush to fork out for a T. Sure you can heaps of power from thwem and that rush, they are great dont get me started. But you still have to do brakes, suspension, clutches etc etc.

If it was time for a change I would say go for it, but I would not change on a whim.

My thoughts

I been hearing a new XR8 can be picked up cheaper than a new T, due to the market and the fact the 8's arnt selling.

I say stay with 8 as you will miss it and you know it. You will miss every bit of it like you mentioned in your post. Even though I picked T myself I miss that commy VT SS sound. :)

Des. Get your XR8 cammed with Vernier gears and you will have the beast you were wanting..... I am nt sure whether or not you have seen my thread in the Herrod forum on AFF.. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=65330 ...

But at the moment My XR8 has got 282rwkw with 650rwnm, and that with a Very tight and fresh engine.. Once ran in it should get between 290- 300rwkw... The main figure you should be looking at is the torque it is making

it is getting close to what the turbo boys are making and only 50nm less the what a BPT top mount SC BOSS is making... Sure it is still not as much as the Turbo boys but it sure is getting there, and the power is instant, no waiting for the turbo to come onto boost and you also have the awesome v8 exhaust to listen to, not to mention the induction roar.....

This is one of the first Dyno runs that rob did on my ute.. the tune is more revised now, as I said 282 and 650 @ wheels..... also the torque is lasting longer....
