Both are long throw shifts , clunky, & VERY Ford "toploaderish"!.

I shared your impression of the XR6T gearbox when I first test drove a manual. It reminded me very much of my old XY. I decided that I didn't want this "clunkiness", prefererring comfort, smoothness and refinement over harshness these days (getting old!).

However I noticed a big difference in the shift quality in Barry's (BS888) XT V8 manual. It was so much lighter and smoother to drive, oh and that glorious V8 power! I can only imagine what a Boss 290 is like, the 3 valve 220kw (maybe a bit more 'cause it had Herrod exhaust) was impressive enough.

Congratulations on your new vehicle Charlie, I guess we won't be seeing much of you on the forums any more as you will finding excuses to drive the new toy! :D

So much for my future as a motor magazine scribe!... My other 1/2 drove the Pursuit yesterday & All my comments are opposite to her impressions!! She says, how much lighter the steering, clutch & gearbox feel compared to her turbo!... My impressions are still that the pursuit feels so much heavier!.. Oh well each to their own!

One area where the 290 creams the turbo is cruising along at say 30 -40 kms in 2nd, Then stand on the go pedal, change to 3rd at 5000rpm ( Not flogging the dear yet).... MATTE, The roar! AND the G forces are unreal!!... This is SERIOUS acceleration!
