Hey team, I friend at work has a friend who owns a 1998 Supra, 6 speed, Twin Turbo, 20,000km, unmodified.

He loves my car (2004 stock standard T) and wants to do a straight swap.

I have been in his car, it's immaculate and goes a lot quicker than mine (or maybe it just feels like it cos it's so low to the ground).

What are people's thoughts?

Does anyone know much about Supra's?

I know it will be more expensive to maintain, repair and insurance.

They are valued about the same (mid $30's) and would be a fair swap $ wise.

I love the performance and handling, but they are hard to sell, easy to steal and a pain to insure.

They have heaps of performance potential, but the interior looks like a XB falcon.

Can you live with a 2 dr sports car ?

If so then go for it.

Supra's are the best of the ricers IMO, but almost undrivable on a wet day. Had a mate with one and he got rid of it and bought a Jag cause his better half couldnt control it in the wet. Other than that, they would be my pick of Jap cars.

I'm not married and have no kids (and don't plan to in the next few years)so a 2 door car would be ok.

I have heard they are hard to sell. I mean a 1998 car selling for mid 30k's is a lot of money.

well if you work together ask him for a temp swap, maybe for like a day or two. Then you can really see what the car is like to live with, park, the way it brakes, handles etc...

Get insurance quotes as well before you even consider it, I think you'll find it will be a big difference in premium and a lot of companies wont touch the car at all due to it being a grey import.
