Planning A Move From Wrx To Xr6t

Well, I'll put my 2 cents worth in too. I got my BA mk1 3 months ago, and never looked back, although it has a noisy handbrake whilst moving slowly and a 5th gear that crunches (bloody T5's), its a great car to drive.

I have the leather interior, sport seats and they feel oooh so comfy, performance is good for a stocker and its enough to hose a rexy or any jap car up.

And mods as mentioned earlier for a few grand you can get 300rwkws and easy 12's down the quater and......still be a stock looking daily driver and street driven.

For me, the pro's on the "T" out weigh the con's on it. Handbrakes are an issue but that's BA mk1 prob but easily fixed but a BA mkII or BF dont have that so your laughing, trust the guys here get a "T", you'll wont look back.

PS: they run 5.56 psi stock, ask some of the guys here that run 10psi up, hello FUN :blink:

I got three words - don't do it...

maybe because my xr6t has been always at the service centre and others haven't, but I can quite periodically say that buying this car was the worst car I've ever bought.

it sux on fuel (way worse then my modified MY00 was) it rattles a gazillion times more often then the scooby

granted it is bigger and more spacious, but it drives like a boat so much so I can't help but wonder that it'd probably be more at home out in the ocean then on the road.

I'm sure a modified turbo like clarke said will leave an wrx or gt libby for dead, but WOT bursts for me a few and far between... I guess I feel the weight of my right boot a lot harder in my hip pocket than others...

I drove an 05 STi the other day and I am kicking myself twice as hard now for getting rid of the last one.

again, might be spoken by a jaded owner whose had a lot of problems... but I'm sick of justifying fords to everyone whenever I have to take the bloody thing back for something else to be fix/replaced.

I disagree with mattson... I went from a rex to a T.... my frist T was a lemon a MK1 and at the time I had nothnig but bad thngs to say... I bought a new T a year ago (a MK11) and I have to say it suits my needs much better. I find it MUCH better then my rex and my previous T....

avoid the MK1's, they have issues... most of these have been ironed out with the BA MK11 and I havent heard of any BF owners complaining.

whilst I loved the rex, I must say that I would never go back to one for day to day driving :spoton:

Wow, thanks heaps to everyone for their response! It provided helpful reading.

I’m looking at used, but prefer not more than 1-2 yrs old. New is totally out of consideration far as the big Fords and Holdens are concerned cos they simply depreciate too heavily. I reckon I can get a good deal on a near-new Ford.

To be honest, I have also looking at the XR8 and SS/SV8 (6.0 liter).

I’m after, firstly auto, then space. Heavier fuel consumption I can live with cos I rack up very very low miles – it’s just to the nearby train stn and back daily. You can imagine the turbo won’t even come on boost nor would I want it to for such short trips before warm-up. As someone noted, the Rex turbo doesn’t come on song till 3500rpm. Below that on 1st and 2nd, they are low geared and one needs to wring its neck to move at decent pace.

I’m sure a Falcon 4.0 NA will suit most of my daily needs, but I’d just like to have a blast on a turbo every now n then!

Not interested in mods either, my Rex is factory stock, its replacement will probably be the same. I’ve “done my time” with modded Lan Evo 2, Volvo 850T5, Swift GTi, etc., not terribly interested in this dept any longer.

I have also looked at the Liberty but feel they are overpriced.

Anyway, I’m not settled on the choice yet, so still lurking in forums and reading up.

Mate I drive short trips to work and back, and the T doesnt warm up and runs rich. Averaging about 17 l per 100 km. But on the open road goes as low as 10 average.

See who is selling on this forum, if it has a few mods then a bonus.

'carn scotty, you can do better than 17L average. Why mine's rarely below 18L. I know I know, softcock etc etc, but with any luck I'll be over 20L when I've moved back south...and left a bit.
