It feels bullet proof and hasnt missed a beet in 7,500 K's. Now the oil has been changed and the car got jacked up I find that the first line of defence to the underside of the gearbox is a plastic cover. What genius thought of this???????A new BF XR8 on a test with the new VE SS died suddenly when some road debris penetrated the plastic cover and caused the fluid to run out.Why a piece of plastic and not a metal cover. Surely a metal cover would be stronger, especially when its the underside of the car, so open to road debris and scrapes on low points. Hmmm Ford! The vid has since been removed. Wasn't even an XR8 in many of the shots (Fairmont), and if it really DID hit a rock on the move, it certainly wouldn't have run out in one single puddle!!!Click here for another piece of 'journalism' bankrolled by HoldenAs for the plastic cover issue, dunno... Still a plastic pan is a sh*tty deal.

Shouldn't need to be done I agree, but I'm sure someone must make a better aftermarket replacement?

Wouldn't be surprised if some of the internal ZF parts were tough moulded plastic either. Every extra kg counts.
