I have rated the new ZF box in the BF's as awesome and love using it each time I drive. It feels bullet proof and hasnt missed a beet in 7,500 K's. Now the oil has been changed and the car got jacked up I find that the first line of defence to the underside of the gearbox is a plastic cover. What genius thought of this???????

A new BF XR8 on a test with the new VE SS died suddenly when some road debris penetrated the plastic cover and caused the fluid to run out.

Why a piece of plastic and not a metal cover. Surely a metal cover would be stronger, especially when its the underside of the car, so open to road debris and scrapes on low points.

Hmmm Ford!

If you're referring to the video I think you are, dont put too much stock in it. The vid has since been removed. Wasn't even an XR8 in many of the shots (Fairmont), and if it really DID hit a rock on the move, it certainly wouldn't have run out in one single puddle!!!

As for the plastic cover issue, dunno...

My farther is the workshop foreman at our local ford dealers and they have had ZF's with damaged pans, so while that particular video was a crock of  it is a known problem.
