Self defence is more for adults or teen age children, as a 7-14 year old nothing beats getting the next coloured belt. If you you do several years of karate or any other martial art you are going to do basic self defence anyway and then some.

that's right.. they grow them so they have something else to complain about breaking while cleaning the dishes..

I did Judo for 8 years. Any form of martial art as a kid is great for discipline and character building.

Good on him for getting his yellow belt!

Hey Slymeat, well done with the little fella.

I have been a Karate instructor for few years now and there is nothing better than seeing young kids Grade.

Its good to see a few of members of the forum involved in the martial arts. I have had the luck to teach professionally for the last 15 years and I get to celebrate 30 years of training next January.

As far as self defence goes some styles are more focussed that way than others, many styles these days are far more tournament or sport focussed and don't cover a lot of the basic self defence material. Still regardless of the arts focus it is a good thing to have people participate.

Regards

Slymeat,

Then you must know of Sensei Nabil. I trained with Kancho Sullivan last week and he still amazes me what he can do for a 59 year old.

I think its great that kids learn martial arts. Self discipline and respect for others is a must in today's society.

Good work!!
