What Is The Quickest Way Off The Line?

A few people have mentioned giving HSV's a thrashing off the line in an XR6T. I have had an XR6T for 3 weeks now and have found it sluggish off the line and have been left several car lengths behind VY Maloo's, SS's and even beaten slightly by a VX Calais V8!

Someone mentioned holding the break and the revs up - what combination is the best for acceleration? What are SSS XR6T owners doing to get decent performance? (other than mods as mine is a fleet car).

I've borrowed a Tazzo and the best time I've recorded to 60ft was 2.21 seconds with TC off and a brake assisted start by revving to about 2500rpm and letting go of the brake, then smoothly but rapidly flooring the accelerator.

The Tazzo claims to be fairly accurate but I somehow managed a 5.84 second 0-60mph time and that was with two failry heavy passengers and a nearly full tank of 98ron fuel.

I was a little suspect of the time but it seems to be a good indicator of good and bad starts and the best 60ft time I could manage without brake assistance was 2.38 seconds. This would suggest that brake assisted is definitely quicker.

As it should be, below the boost of the turbo, the car would be worse of the line than a N/A XR6.

You need the turbo spooling for any go.

So, have it held on the brakes to say 2,700 rpm. Let the brakes off and increase the pressure on your right foot until it meets the resistance of the firewall.

Hey Codsey,

when I need to start quick I just hold the brake & load the converter. Once the tacho goes past 2200rpm you should start to turn the tyres, then it just a matter of letting off the brake before the revs get to high to allow the car to hook up. This will get your "T" to leave nicely, just remember that auto Commodores have a much lower first gear than Falcons plus are lighter. But don't worry, with this "launch technique" you'll be giving them curry in a hurry.

Easy in a manual...all u do:

1) turn traction control off --> this is a must in my opinion for an awesome launch

2) rev to around 2800-3200 no more or less than that otherwise will give u too much wheel spin or not enough (note: I have notcied quickest acceleration with SOME wheelspin...no wheelspin is not the quickest)

3)Drop the clutch...but not fully smacking it out, let it out at a balanced position ie. ride it a tiny bit (otherwise too much wheelspin)

4) say hello to quick acceleration times

A little wheel spin actually is better for you drive train less stress on the DIFF all that power going bang and no where to go hmmm TRACTION CONTROL NOT A FAN!

Definately NO Traction Control. I agree with ONDOLE 2700 to 3200 is best, practice it a bit, I do and get some good launches, 3rd gear can be a tad difficult if you're not careful.
