Love him or hate him the bloke had more enthusiasm and dedication in his left nut than most people on the planet.

RIP Steve.

mate, I got a call at lunch from a mate who is in the water police up there, he said steve was dead and I really thought he was pulling my leg. It really shook me up, I have 2 little kids as well and it really hits home when stuff like this happens. I said to my guys that its right up there with the death of diana (I can still remember where I was and what I was doing). One thing though, he died doing what he loved.

rip u big unit.

Didnt take long for someone to make a wise crack. :spoton: Show some respect guys or shut up :crybaby:

It wouldn't be Australia if we didn't take the piss out of the man shortly after his passing. I'm sure even Steve would agree.

From Mark Virtue - a mate of mine in Sydney; his lines posted on the SMH site:

"A man with a huge heart, a genuine passion for what he did, an infectious enthusiam for life, a love for the natural world, and no fear of death. He died doing what he loved. If only we all could boast such a life and death.

Australia has lost one of its great icons today."

Great memories of a true blue aussie.

Lost for words ... the guy was bigger than life. The first time I saw one of his shows on telly I thought he was a crock (pardon the pun). But I subsequently learned he was not putting it on - he was just the same in real life as he was in front of the camera - he was really committed to the cause of conservation and everything he did was full of heart.

Through his efforts and immense popularity throughout the world and particularly in the US he has given conservation a great boost. All the monies he raised from his TV shows has been put into purchasing thousands of acres of land that is habitat for endangered species, and into promoting conservation education and awareness - he has left a great legacy to the whole world.

He will be sadly missed.

RIP Steve Irwin.

Although our kids are grown up now we still went to Australia Zoo together as a family only a few months ago.

What a wonderful place, I can still remember the thing that struck me the most was how clean it was and it didn't have that horrible animal smell of most Zoos.

I learned a lot about different animals including Harriet the giant Tortise, dingos and Crocodiles that day and although not doing the show, we did spot steve and young Bob scooting around on an old trail bike.

Love him or hate him he was a fair dinkum Aussie and I for one am proud to be an Aussie in no small way thanks to the likes of Steve Irwin.

You are a true Australian Icon, a Legend and a True Blue Aussie.

You'll not be forgotten for a long time.

Rest in Peace my friend and best wishes to your family.

Sincere regards

Big AL

PS For all those thinking of sending flowers, I'm sure Steve would prefer you to support one of his many Wildlife endeavours.
