I don't want to be critical of anyone's endevaours, on the contrary I always encourage it. But I read on the other post about this same plenum that it is made from 3 mm Al plate. Given the large surface area and the load characteristics of a turbo engine, ie up to say 30 psi boost one minute and -30in Hg next the dynamic loading can play havoc with sheet metal manifolds. If you watch one on a dyno you can see the deflection in the walls of the manifold. That is why OEM manifolds have thick cast walls as a minimum 6-8mm thick.

Therefore I would ask what internal ribbing has been used to strength this manifold. Rob's (Mr Turbo) manifold is made from S.S so it is mechanically more rigid. The reasons I ask is I have seen a number of similar manifolds that fail, either with stress cracks (most minor) or major blow-ups (at the drags), and I wouldn't want someone who obviously cares a lot about their car have to experience that situation.

Cheers

Robin.

Spot on Robin...

I know of someone who fitted the Nitto plenum and they said "it blows up like a balloon." :stirthepot:

Not bad for $3500.

this is my car, a turbo eb, makes 328rwkw on 14psi so far, the plenum is a lot bigger, about 11-12l volume, has trumpet runners inside the manifold... as for air distribution, I have a fuel trim of +9% cyl1 +6% cyl2 +3% cyl3 and -2% cyl6.. with my autronic SM4

it is also made from 3mm sheet alloy, and hasnt given a problem, 3mm is vey tough stuff, no way im ever going to hurt it...

as for 30psi boost, if you were running that much, then maybe you could use 4mm, BUT, honestly, how many cars on this forum are running 30psi boost?? id bet probably none... even 20-25psi is a hell of a lot, and I cant see that giving any problems with the plenum

located at kadina S.A

cheers, brad

Very nice work mate. I've followed the buildup on FF.com.au for a while. You've done a great job. If your planning on selling this stuff just be aware of the rules about sponsorship on here the mod's can be a bit grumpy at times.. :stirthepot:
