I have heard bad things about Shell oil... I would recommend Magnatec over that stuff and its heaps cheaper. The BF T takes approx 6.6L

What sort of bad things? Specific to Ts?

I've used Shell oil for years, and never had any problems.

Helix Ultra is simply too thin for what Ford spec for our engines.

So edge 0W-40 is approved for use by FPV but Helix Ultra which is thicker at 5W-40 is to thin, How do you figure?????

who cares it all works. The ford doesnt use a catepillar injection system where oil pressure is essential for correct injection so I wouldn't read into it too much.

I was running around with 3L in my sump for a while and the oil didnt even register on the dipstick. Oil is over-rated. 0-40.... 10-60......gees its been proven to work fine so dont worry.

AHH the marvellous HEUI system (Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector) what a roaring failure that was for Cat. Try and start one when the oils done any more the 250hours or its any cooler than 20 degress...

yeah and Expensive Daewoo were dumb enough to put it in there Jackaroo.......(and I was dumb enough to buy one!!!).

Its a good system untill you have to start the engine or replace the injectors....... but if it didnt cause me grief I would not have spat the dummy and bought the xrt!!!! thanks holden & cat!!!

Diesel F series have the same system..great system on paper (yeah and so i communism... ) not so great in the real world. F truck injectors each retail for more than a Cat D10r Dozer Inector..7.3 litre moter V a 27 litre motor..go figure...A guy from F Trucks told me once that once they sell the injectors and alternator off a new F series powerstroke the engine is paid for...crazy sh*t.. (1k per injector and around 1.2 for the alternator) Thats why Westrac dont run the big F trucks anymore just ford couriers... :spit:

Because oils aint oils Sol.

The Shell is technically thicker at startup - first digit is cold flow viscosity, second digit is hot flow viscosity.

An oil that's is good is BP corse 5W-40 full synthetic, much better than Shell from reports I've heard.

The Ducks guts of oil are ester (diester) based oils of which there are only a few, Motul 8000, NEO, Redline off the top of my head (maybe Royal Purple too). NEO is superb, but very hard to find these days as the distributor quit. Motul 8000 is pretty easy to find, well around my place it is and I've only heard good things about it. I used it in my LS1 and was very happy. Worked a lot better than Mobil 1 or Formula R as it was back then.

hmm, been following this thread and the time has come to put new oil in the T.

I've been using a semi synth pennzoil 15-40 and I think I wanna make the switch to a fully synthetic, either castrol edge 0-40 or 10-60. Living in canberra, the temps don't get too hot, even in summer, rarely reaches 35-40deg. And I don't drive my car hard often, maybe a squirt in 2nd or 3rd every now and then... so I was thinking 0-40 would probably be best for my application? or due to the summer weather, would I be best off going the 10-60? keeping in mind my T is modified, but I rarely drive it hard!

I'm in Canberra, been on the Edge 0W-40 all this year, summer through winter and back again. I'm thinking of changing 10W-60 for a bit, only for the sake of change, to see if I notice any diff at all.

Then again, I'm keen to try some of that Nulon top shelf stuff as well. Either the 10W-40 or the 15W-50.

I used the Nulon 10W-40 in my LS1 and I noticed the engine was not quite as smooth as with Mobil 5W-40 or Edge 0W-40. I probably try something else this time..
