How about Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-50?

What would you guys use?

1. Mobile 1 5W-50

2. Castrol Edge 10W-60  or

3. Castrol Edge 0W-40?

Please advise.

I went with Edge 0W-40 as I didn't want to go any thicker than a 40 in a stock motor. Some people will tell you a 0W is to thin but my theory is the thiner oil on start up gets the oil around the motor quicker before it warms up.

Yeah, people tend to forget that the '40' is the operating viscosity (ie viscosity at operating temp), and the 0W is the 'cold' viscosity (start up, initial running).

I use Edge 0W-40, and it rocks my socks off. Repeat, I have no socks.

Edit: Having said that, I didn't change to full synth until the engine was fully run in (rings bedded etc).

I changed to Mobil semi-synth at the 3,000km service, and full synth at 7,500 kms. By 7,500kms, the rings were well bedded given my run in procedure.

Thanks all for your replies.

I called the Castrol Tech Advice line and they said to go for 0W40, so I bought 7L of Edge 0W40 from Auto One for $109 on the way home from work.

I am looking forward to seeing how it goes.

it shouldnt really matter, just as long your oil isnt too thick for cold climates start ups and your oil doesnt get too thin (low oil pressure) when its hot

Mate unless you absolutely prefer castrol, NUlon make an upmarket oil to the manufacturers specs, and its cheaper. Faarked if I know how to point you to the right post though.

As SavageD said let your motor run in for at least 7500 before putting synthetic in. Mineral oil will help bed in your rings where as synthetic because its pure will not. I actually waited for 15000 before I went synthetic. Just throw in magnatec, its cheap and its great for new engines.
