Mine has only just developed 2 small flakes at 150,000km.

You forgot to mention the flake behind the wheel :nono:

I didn't forget. I was just hoping nobody would notice.

Check the warranty agreement in your manual, and see what it says. Make sure you're 100% clear on what it covers, hopefully this will be to your advantage when going back to the dealer as I doubt surface finish is excluded.

As an example, my headlight lenses developed heat cracking where the beam passes through. I took the car to Ford, showed them the problem and that the other cars in the lot didn't have the same problem and that it looked unsightly, and within 48 hours I had new lights installed. They noted the defect as 'heat cracking' and that was fine for Ford to warrant the replacement, so paint peeling off has a pretty good chance of being accepted as a fault.

I had a mate change the plugs on my old girl 6-7 months ago he noticed while pulling the Turbo manifold off that a couple of the rubber mounts were broken and that the black enamel (or whatever that coating is) was flaking off in rather big pieces around where the hoses sat. Once it was all the way off he pointed out that there was flaking on the inside aswell I WAS UNIMPRESSED to say the least :nono: . Took it to ford they changed the mounts and manifold under warranty. From then on I have kept an eye on this, the last thing you need is this black crap going where it shouldn't.

Mine is flaking on the top of the crossover manifold (though not too bad...), haven't as yet had a chance to look on the inside of it thoug... my car has now done 55,000k's in nealry 4 years, fairly low k's for a car of this type :)

I'd be fairly unimpressed if my car had this problem after 4 years of basically fault free motoring.

I went the Wednesday night drags at WSID and there was a young guy there with a xr6turbo and he had hood open and noticed that it was all flaked and I said to him was it because it got hot and he said na it went in for a service and they put the gurney on to it to clean it and it came back like that so they must get the gurney close as ( may be the boy's job ). I didn't like the look of it but he didn't mind too much. :cussing:
