In the process of getting 18" tyres but the budget will only allow for a sub $2k package with 18x8 wheels. So the choice is 235/40/18 in a Falken 326 or a 245/40/18 in a Hankook K104.

What would you advsie? I have plans to get some real power (300rwkw) and know either will not be 100% for grip etc. The K104 are an ok tyre (come in 245/40/18) but would I get better grip and wear with a Falken 326 (235/40/18).

Let me know your experience and which way you would go.

Do I spend and extra $50 per tyre (if possible) and get a better tyre?

Cheers

I have the K104's in 19's and they arent the best tyre, get soft easily in the twisties and the 275's have less grip then the 245 17's that came with the car, atleast in a straight line... spend the extra and get the tyres that can handle the power you want.

I also have k104's, in 19's. I've still got the original 245X19's on the front, the 275's on the rear went ages ago. I found the rear to grip quite well at first, but even with plenty of tread left, the grip soon diminished. In saying that, the Kumho's I replaced them with on the back are far worse, so for a cheap tyre, I think the k104's are pretty good. Looks like the ones on the front will outsee the life of 2 sets of rears.

If you want long lasting grip, you'll be spending the $$$ I think.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

It was what I had expected, I have researched further and been offered the HR109 wheels with either the Sumitomo HTR Z II (UTQG 220 AA A) in 245/40/18 or a HOT Special on Dunlop 2030 Sport for an extra $50ea.

The dealer mentioned they are the same as the SP9000 but I could not find any info on them.

Are either of these better than the K104 or Falken? Hard to trust dealers sometimes.

I have narrowed down the wheel choice to the HR109 and ANZ Velvet.

What do you think ????

Mate, I just got a set of 18's and went Falken 512's no complaints from me yet, much quieter than the 17's but a little less traction in a straight line. I think that is more down to the fact that 40psi was put in the tyres, compared to the mid 30s in the 17s. I really just wanted to steer clear of nankangs as I have not hard a good thing about them really. The Falken 326 are a low level Falken and you can do better for not much more money IMO.

This Wheels tyre test was done recently using an XR6 BF Falcon on 17" rims.

Results show if you want a very cheap tyre, Maxxis came 3rd :spoton:
