your car runs consistently at around 12.1-12.2 you dont modify the car in any way since the last time you went out and are expecting to run a low 12. due to track/weather good luck you run a 11.9, you try for the next six months to repeat that run and allways run a 12.1-12.2, do you own an 11s  car or a 12s car

Yes, 11 second car.

It's like the Olympics. The majority of people ( Athletes ) go into the meets with PB's. Some, with the excitement of the night, and the fact it's such a big occasion, smash there PB, and post a World Record.

They only have to do it once, and it's in the record books, untill someone else breaks it.

Some people will say the pool had 'soft' water, the athlete was in prime 'condition' others will say it will never be beaten again, but the fact remains, the Athletes best on the night, was better than any previous, regardless of conditions.

I've had a similar conversation with Simon from Extreme. As I said to him, I don't classify 'my' car as quick, as I rarely run the 11 sec setup. In street trim, it runs very low 12's. When I may :stirthepot: have a run with a car from the traffic light gp, it's a 12 second car. Which, from all accounts is a quick street car.

Prime example. I was having a natter with a guy in a carpark. He says "How quick is your car"?

I pointed to it, and said " As you're looking at it, it ran 12.3@117mph. " Drop the h/cover and t/gate, it ran 11.87 @ 115mph on different tyres.

Guys are actually more impressed with the street trim aspect than the drag tyred aspect. go figure.. I suppose because it's a street car, and the 'street trim' counts.???

My mechanic owns an immaculate/show 10.7 second Monaro. (HQ) or whatever. ( Still classed as a 'streeter', on slicks. He recently drove mine, with the 11 sec tune and said I would blow him away on the street. Interesting..

One thing I never understood was how people can say they have a 10 second car when it could have run a 10.9999999999

If it's a 10 second car it should do 10 seconds flat!! :stirthepot:

I dont have a 13 second car, I have a 13.5 second car

Depends on who you speak to Steve..

When Joe SS driver asks the question on the road or where ever, He relates to ET. and ET alone, most don't bring mph into the equation, which is a very important aspect of car setup.

Speak to most drag guys, and they want to know 60', ET and mph. Generally the ET must include the hundredth number aswell. Not just 13.5, ask you say.

I think it should be:

In street trim, ie fully legal (all cat/s in place, street legal rubber, no stripped interiors, car WOULD pass a full ETA/defect test) it has run a 12. Timeslip to prove please. :stirthepot:

In drag race trim, ie anything goes (no cats, slicks, no interior, race fuel) it has run 11's. Also, while you are there, timeslip would be handy too.

If you have no timeslip, no bragging rights for you. Simple.

It is one thing to say, "yeah ive run a 10" but the car was in drag trim, so there is no way you could replicate that time on the street.

You need to specify I guess what trim your car was in, when it ran the time that it did.

This only becomes an issue, when you are talking to wankers.

For the guy who says, with sliks some octane booster and a bit of weight taken out I ran a 11.2, but in street trim it is a 12.1 second car. Then the person you are talking to can take that at face value.

If a guy or gal is spruking off and how fast their car is but has never run a quater then, then that does not count. I dont car if they turn around and beat your car on the street and you constantly run 11's. Because the street is not the right place, nor is it an even playing field.

For me, I will probably never run a quater mile and find out how quick it is. But when I drive it and I am smiling cause it feels fast, then I am happy.

It goes fast and spins the tyres..............

It makes me smile............

It cheeses off guys on bikes.................

It has plenty of power and most people wouldn't have a clue what an 11 second or 12 second car feels like. So I just say it has the ability to light up the tyres in 3rd - that'll do. :stirthepot:

I think street times are the most important because that's were you drive your car every day.So I think how you drive your car on the street is how you should run your car on a drag strip and that is the time you should brag about.when doing all the other stuff as quoted above its a toatlly diffrent story

Its not like you pull up to a car on the street that has all over his/her interior ripped out/drag radials on it so he can run a bit faster.

Its all about how you drive it on the street.

Cheers

I suppose time slips tell the story don't they.

On a side note which is the quicker car, a or b, assuming both auto and street tyres.

a) Runs a 12.9 @ 109 with a 1.80 60'

or

b) Runs a 12 .9 @ 113 with a 2.30 60'

With (b) mph is it safe to say that with a better launch the et would come down making it a quicker car or is the better mph just a result of the sh1T 60' ?

Point being perhaps one of these cars has a better claim to being a 12 sec street car than the other assuming that matters of course.

Main thing is if it gives you your jollys it's a fast car. My advice don't get in a car that you know is faster than yours 'cause it will just burst your bubble. Sh1t I used to think WRX's were fast.

Numbers are just numbers.

If its fast enough for you to back off cos its getting out of hand, then its a quick street car, and most would be happy with that.

If it does 10s on slicks with weight stripped and you 60kg speed junky mate driving, then its not gonna benifit you on the street.

What matters to me is at the track ( the track with corners ) and how my T compares to other cars on the day... if I can keep up with porsches driven by tosser doctors, then Im very happy... and if I can pass them.

Our cars are fast, awesome, and very intimidating to alot of drivers that pull up next to us. Who cares what time it does, as long as the tool in the HSV next to me thinks he's gonna get his but kicked if he tries

To me - each to their own...

If I drive my car to 11.3 then it is an 11 sec car and I did the time. If someone else did the time - I wouldnt have a problem telling people if I didnt do the time. There is always going to be someone better than me at drag racing and I am always interested to see how fast the car could perform.
