OK, I was thinking a while ago, talking to a few people and just my general opinion, also Eugene's comments made me open the can-o-worms, as I tend to agree with them.

What's your take on these scenarios:

a.) You buy a car, and the owner said it does easy 12's. You have never taken it to the drags, but you've run a couple of cars on the street, and those owners said there cars ran 12's.

Do you own a 12 second car? Can you tell people you do?

b.) You have a squillion killowatss, becuase the dyno says so, as does your empty bank balance. But you have only ran a tyre smoking 13 second pass, but your tuner said it will run 11's.

Do you own an 11 second car? Can you tell people you do?

c.) You have run your car to a low 11 second pass. Someone else drove it, because they have experience, or more than you anyway. They run a 10 for you.

Do you own a 10 second car? Can you tell people you do

d.) You run a good time, as expected on MT's or Slicks. As per 'Drag racing'. ( Like someone said, they are a part of the sport, like playing footy with studs, as opposed to Dunlop Volleys'. )

Do you own that time, if it won't run it on 'street tyres' ?

Personally, my take is that you run what YOU brung, on the night/day not what someone else has done previous, or 'says' it does, or should do, or you bought from a mate of a mate..

This can be extended to the like of cars running super quick times with stripped interiors, dropped weight etc. ( like me, dropped tail gate and hardcover, spare. ) The fact is, anyone can strip there car and run in the same setup, so it's of no real advantage, because someone with an hour or two can run at the same spec. So is ok.. The idea of the sport is time over distance, which is effected by power and weight. Ally trays on utes is touchy, and has it's own thread... 'Drag' cars are different, as they have classes and weight stipulations

I have spoken to countless people ( generally on cruises ) who own 12 second cars, because they ran someone with a 12 second car and 'kept up' with it, so hence it runs 12's.. :spoton: This, or they ran it "detuned to protect something, but it WILL go faster".

Where do you stand on it, and why??

For starters... good topic!

I'm not in to racing my car, I enjoy watching other people race their's though... when people ask me how fast it is or whether I've been to the drags I tell them that the only time I've been to race it I broke a CV... I usually then get asked what time 'should' it do, and that is when it is open to conjecture... F6 UTE you have a similar set up to me on your car, being actuator mod, cat, F6 intercooler with injectors and edit, I also have valve springs... but does that make mine an 11 sec car because your car ran an 11sec pass? No it doesn't. It doesn't even make it a 12sec or 13sec car etc...

All it makes my car is a quick street car... that's never run a time at the drags.

Jack :spoton:

Yeah good topic and will start some good debate IMO.

I ran a 12.5 at WSID wheelspinning all the way because of my street tyres being overpowered. So it's a 12 sec car. That's what I drove it to in street trim on the night.

Having said that, if I put ET streets on the car and ran an 11 (which I'd say is a fair chance) then I'd call it an 11 second car.

BUT, I would only call it an 11 second car when someone asks me that and I still have the ET streets on it. Otherwise it's a 12 second car.

Same goes for those running NOS I reckon - the bottle is not on on the streets...(I hope anyway).

a) you own a 12 second car..

b) you own a 13 second car, go buy some good tyres and hit the track

c) you own a 10 second car, its not the cars fault you cant drive (especially if its an auto)

d) Adams car was a 9 second car, it ran in the 9's with drag tyres and striped out interior.. put the 22's and the interior back on and it was still a 9 second car it was just not done in street trim you cant take that away from him and neither can you take away your 11

heres one for you....

your car runs consistently at around 12.1-12.2 you dont modify the car in any way since the last time you went out and are expecting to run a low 12. due to track/weather good luck you run a 11.9, you try for the next six months to repeat that run and allways run a 12.1-12.2, do you own an 11s car or a 12s car

well my dog only has three legs but is still quick, does he get penalised for not being in street trim.... :stirthepot:

Good topic though, I'm not one to take the car to the drags, I brought it for my enjoyment and my enjoyment only, but still hear the c**p from all the d**kheads out there.

I would love to see some of the responses if this was on the LS1 site - maaatteee, my purple monaro with the fuzzy dice will drop a second if I leave the dice at home....

Good topic!

My car ran a 12.38 at the strip (using MT street Radials) Now I tell all and sundry I have a 12 second car.

Had I been really really lucky and got a 11.99 I would be telling all I have an 11 second car. :stirthepot:

I'm with Luke show me the timeslip.

Timeslips

Timeslips

Timeslips

No timeslips, no time.

yeah yeah.. I agree :stirthepot: .

but if your mate takes it down the strip and runs a 10.. its a 10 sec car... you then take it down and run 11.2's consistently but cant break the 10 sec bracket. Well its not the cars fault you cant drive.. the car has already shown us it can do a 10... hence its a 10 sec car

One thing I never understood was how people can say they have a 10 second car when it could have run a 10.9999999999

If it's a 10 second car it should do 10 seconds flat!! :stirthepot:

I dont have a 13 second car, I have a 13.5 second car
