Actually, its a beautiful country, much like Australia. Just don't try and steal a car there. :) I guess its weird what you get used to, but you just take it in stride.

That's why I live on the Gold Coast and have insurance - so I don't have to worry about alarms systems :D

Me too DZ, l'll let the insurance company worry about theft.

Who takes notice of alarm systems wailing these days, our TS used to be too sensitive and quite often go off, no one even paused. A cool theif could go about his thing no problem. People dont want to get involved these days.

It all depends on any insurance benefit you'd get from having a full alarm vs. the standard immbolizer/coded key. On the NA XR6, the insurance companies I spoke to all said that there is no premium reduction for the full alarm, so I figured it wasn't worth it.

Yeah, l dont think you will see much if any discount.

Insurance companies are over alarms. We put a $1500 alarm system in our new house when we built it and the insurance company didnt want to know about it unless we had it monitored at $1/day!

To get a premium reduction on your car you probably have to install one of those monitored tracking systems where the cars engine can be remotely shutdown if stolen. Probably cost you thousands and save you $50 a year on your premiums <_<

If my alarm deters only one person from messing with my car then it's worth it. A reduction in premium would be a bonus but since I'm leasing mine the insurance is well under $1000 P.A. so it couldn't get much cheaper.

Same, richdave. I'm also leasing mine, so the insurance isn't a concern. However, I guess I'm just not convinced that the alarm is going to deter anyone.

Wow, I'm amazed! The alarm was the first option that I selected. Sure, professional thieves probably won't be deterred, but I reckon if some hoon out there is looking for a joy ride they'd be deterred. I haven't got my XR6T yet, but a while back I had an alarm installed on my current car. I sleep a lot better at night now knowing that if anyone tries anything with my car (usually parked just outside my bedroom window) that it'll wake me up in a flash.

And yes, if your car's stolen your insurance company gets to worry about it, but I bet your next premium would be quite a bit higher as the theft would be counted as a claim.

Plus, if your car is stolen, you have to deal with the inconvenience, the anger and worst of all.... the wait for another XR6T!

Do whatever can be done to prevent it getting stolen! (That's my line of thinking anyway.)

my POV.

A standard alarm is pretty useless, because I know that when an alarm goes off, everyone just thinks "Some knobhead has just set his alarm off".

Ive heard those tracking systems are useless aswell, because they arent that hard to get at and disable. Ive heard from people who are not pro theives, but can find, disable and remove those quicktrac type systems in 5 minutes. Not worth the layout in my eyes...

If I was going to get anything, it would be a long range, good quality remote pager. it will page you to a special keypad screen on a keyring if the engine is started, dorrs opened, glass breaks or the car even gets bumped. Sure, they would be easy to disable, but you would have gotten a page and gone out there with a length of steel piping by the time they disabled it.

Also, the Ford Smartlock system is one of the most secure car locks / immobilisers in australia at the moment. the tibbe locks are unpickable (from what ive heard) and you cant hotwire the car. Aparently, the only way you could steal a AU was to break into the cabin, take off the handbrake, and load it onto a tray top tow truck!

So I would just get a pager system (email me for info on what ive been told is a good 1KM range model) and trust the ford immobiliser. The pager will also alert you if someone bumps/hits your car, which means that you will get a page if someone hits your car in a parking lot. This means that you will be able to get a numberplate before they take off if they are going to do a runner.

Hope ive helped...
