Happy with my local Ford service dept.

First time the car was there (brake shudder), the now unemployed apprentice was reported to the local plod.

Now I get first class service and discounted price.

Dont rip off your heat shields unless you really want to melt your brake fluid reservoir... I have seen this happen and it ended with a few trees.

Just get in there and see where the rattle is coming from. It might not be where u think it is coming from.

Crap.

Your not removing the shield off the manifold.

The shield around the cat section will be rattling. Just take it off.

I've got an aftermarket cat and dump pipe so I don't have that shield either and I've had no problems at all. It hasn't even bothered the boost gauge pipe and that's alot closer than the brake fluid reservoir.

If only I could tell you the story of a bloke I know.. I won't go into the full detail though as it's all gone legal I believe. Suffice to say, he bought a BA MKII XR8 ute at the beginning of the year, yet it only has 7,000 k's on the clock, and has been in the dealer for most of it's life. I think it's on gearbox number 3, diff number 2, has had multiple cooling system replacements, and now has the motor being rebuilt due to melted pistons (the complete list of things is so long, I doubt anybody would believe me).

In the middle of this, his friendly dealer black-listed his car as being heavily modified, so all the other dealers refused to look at it. It was only when he went legal that Ford claimed that they had "made a mistake" - seeing as his car is stock.

How on earth did he do all that damage in 7000km?

Would of been easier to give him a new vehicle easier and cheaper

It's been a few things... mostly I think the car was just a lemon, teamed with an incompetent dealer. Like the two times he got it back, drove 5 minutes down the road, and cooked the auto. The engine fire caused by them leaving an oily rag on the exhaust. The incorrect oil in the gearbox. The fact that the current diff is apparently full of lapping paste from the factory. The fact that somone fitted the incorrect radiator. And the sneaking suspicion that the dealer has been pulling a swifty on Ford by not actually always replacing parts. It's been with a different dealer since June on the current repair job, and they are still fixing all the problems with it. Unfortunately due to all the problems with it, Ford is doing things like sending the gearbox back to the factory for the engineers to inspect etc to figure out what has been going wrong.

with the heatshield rattle. I took my ute in and they fixed it. Sometimes it as simple as a few stones rattling around in there. More likely to happen to me since I drive into crap job sites.

With regard to dealerships, mine has been pretty good so far, touch wood, so I hope it contunes till my warranty runs out the edit and interlooler time :)

I had heat shield rattle, took it to the dealer to fix, first time failed, second time they fixed it (well pretty much) by putting about 8 hose clamps all over the bl00dy thing, haha. Every now and then there is a minor hum when cold, but its basically all gone now.

out of interest what was wrong woith your gearbox? Mine has a T56 and it

s really starting to clunk into 2nd and 3rd gear, only 20 000 km on the clock and I don't think that is acceptable. But for obvious reasons I worried about taking it back to ford cause they will probably wreck more sh*t on it. Might try a better gearbox oil first and if that doesn't help ask for a new gearbox and hope for the best. I did however read in the warranty that if ford can't recity a problem then you can take the car to another mechanic and bill ford but have to look at it again cause there is a catch of course.

Zane

Got mine back yesterday, for a gearbox replacement  (warranty) ,Oh BTW it took 3 weeks ,couldn't complain much because a free replacement.....then they tell me the clutch is about to go, due to minor shutter, BTW there is an extreme clutch and flywheel in between the motor and box, I then ask about the oil, two mechanics or apprentices both NO IDEA I ask "IS IT SYNTRANS" both again no clue. I ask " HOW MUCH WENT IN " they both shrug...  DBOSS laughs, I say lets go , clutch feels wrong now,, weird wherring noise when at 1/2 clutch now,

T56 going in on the weekend...  Car now parked at home waiting for the weekend to see what the idiots screwed up...  :spoton:

MY ADVISE DONT TAKE YOUR CAR TO ANY DEALER UNLESS ITS GETTING DONE FOR NOTHING , they just cant get anything right the first time... hopeless...

pete

I shattered third gear into neutral... it sounded like jingle bells when I drove it in...
