I remembered this when reading another post. I had my 65k service done recently and the service guy tried to get me to pay $100 so they could tighten the exhaust bolts. I asked if this was a regular service and he said ford recommended T owners do it every service? I thought he was BS'ing as this guy keeps trying to add all these services to me.

have any of you been asked this? and if so is it necessary to do the tightening

I do mine every 7-10,000km & they are loose every time.

It's a must.

Every sevice I will go to, I will ask to get all bolts tightened and this should be free of charge. If not, take it somewhere else.

Muzza do you have to pay to get it done?

im in sydney and I go to thompson ford. ive just had my service done but I want to get some other issues fixed under warranty before my factory warranty runs out. (the b pillar of the drivers side is wearing away due to the seatbelt!)

I do my own that way I know it's done.It is a part of a turbo service & yes they charge you extra for the privlege. Do it your self then tell them not to do it then your service SHOULD be cheaper.

I checked mine a week after a so called service & it had 2 studs missing. Not happy.

Anyway I'm back watching the V8's.

If they are always loose, I suggest you go and buy high temp threadlock. This will stop them becoming loose and should stop any future problems.

how do we tighten them ourselves? do we need to get the car onto ramps or anything?

Take heat shields off then you can get them all. It's a little fiddly but you can get then with the right tools. Don't swing off the bolts going into the alloy head.

Hi temp loctite?? Do you have the number?

If you look in your warranty/service schedules you will see that it's not a standard service item, and they will add time on to do this. It shouldn't be an extra hunge, but I would expect about $40 for labour.

I have never taken my car to ford and never will unless I need warranty.

my tuner can do all the handbook serviceing and I trust him more than a ford apprentace who has to do 9 hours work in 8 and I have peace of mind knowing that my car wont be thrashed by an 18 year old.

bolts tightened free :spoton:
