Now to the lighter side, my 2 year old just turned on the siren in the work car and probably scared the bejesus out of the neighbours.  Little bugger took my key and went out to the gararge.

When 'said' 2 yo turned on the Siren, did he/she also try to start the car. And if so, did he/she ensure it was in P for Park. Might be worth getting your 2 yo on this site to also give some advice to our forum members as I understand that this situation has been a problem here in the past. :stirthepot:

Excellent thread, keep up the good work.

To clear the air. I am not Highway Patrol trained, although they are in the next office to me, so some of these more technical questions may take time as far as there protocals so my aswers would not be as exact as Plonky's if he were answering. But the officer having to be visable is a myth from time to time the government force the issue but it never lasts, that said to actually use the gun you have to be able to see the target so it goes that they are not completly invisible only well camoflaged.

Sly,

I have an interest in speed detection.

I purchased this LIDAR

It is a good unit and very accurate, I have hit a target at over 600m on a tripod.

How come I very rarely see police using LIDAR on mono/tri pods ?

I would fight any ticket that was shot by LIDAR is it was only hand held as it is very prone to errors.

The LIDAR needs to be regularily calibrated to remain accurate, and at the start of each shift the highway patrol do this as a matter of course. There are at least two different attachments for the LIDAR so that it can be hand held the problem is that one of these make the LIDAR look more like a rifle and so scares the bejesus out of motorists. I believe that the DOPLAR used to have to be on a tripod but not the LIDAR. The LIDAR attached to the vehicles can be easily calibrated using two tuning forks of different but known frequences and a fixed object at a know distane as is my understanding.

When you reply Slymeat, in the 'Add Reply' (not quick reply) window there are three checkboxes just below the space where you type.

Enable Emoticons, Enable Signature and Enable Email Notifications of Replies.

Click the third (email) option and you will get a fordxr6turbo.com email every time there's a reply.

Sly,

I think you have confused the Eagle3 (Radar) with the Kustom Pro3 (LIDAR).

LIDAR needs to be aimed using the red dot and cannot be vehicle mounted. They are usually carried on bikes and are very accurate. The cannot be calibrated with the tuning fork, this is radars.

LIDAR is very prone to operator errors due to the way this system operates. I have been told that the bike cops do not use the mono/tripod because they cannot fit them on the bikes.

I guess that the inaccurate readings that can be gererated by the user would depend on several factors. As only about 1% of tickets are fought in court, they would not see a need to operate these units correctly. I would fight ANY LIDAR ticket.
