I had a stage 1 APS unichip fitted by Tim Slako here in WA, it made a big difference. 0-100 4.6 sec, 400 metres 13.26, nothing else but a drilled airbox and k&n filter. Chopped out the centre muffler and turned it into a noisy dog and lost half a second. I'm going to try a three inch from the CAT back to where the system splits into 2 two and a quarters. Making 312 kW at the flywheel, all this talk of incapable fuel injector flow etc, very scary, I think I'll stop while I'm ahead. As far as warranty goes, the diff has a usual Ford period noise at 95klm (just like an EB XR6 I bought new in 92, anyway my dealer knows about the unichip and couldn't care less, I think attitude has a lot to do with warranty claims. Has anybody got any ideas re the exhaust without wasting $1500 for a 3 inch stainless that seems to offer very little extra power, that's not good bang for bucks in my book

Posted 01/11/03 06:55 AM Share Posted 01/11/03 06:55 AM Hypnodoc the exhaust goes into twin 2.5 inch at the back of the convertor. so unless you keep it like this any thing smaller than 3.5 inch will loose power as it can not breath enough. cat back with hand made mufflers no drumming inside cost approx $1200 on the gold coast.#.5 inch from turbo back including cat approx $1700 this is what we have in standard trim we gained 23rwkw.Ian

Anybody got any ideas on better valve springs, apparently the GT ones fit and are stronger?

This also included a K&N filter. It was a Cat back system 3" to the rear muffler and 2 2.5" tail pipes. Apart from the sound I reckon that's not a bad increase for starters. He tests all his products personally and is straight up.

Would seem silly to do other mods to the exhaust without doing this 1st.We've all heard reports of flowing 350fwkw through standard systemScotty
Guest 56Mainline Guests Posted 02/11/03 06:50 AM Share Posted 02/11/03 06:50 AM Too right..I've got 279kw at the rear, std sytem but centre muffler removed & replaced by straight pipe.First mod I did was the removal of the centre muffler, dyno before & after, & I got 14rwkw at peak & max of 21rwkw mid-range. So, I'm surprised by Hypnodoc's results....HYPNODOC,Did you remove the centre muffler after installing the Unichip? If so, you would need to re-dyno and re-program the chip because of the change. Posted 02/11/03 11:32 AM Share Posted 02/11/03 11:32 AM "the factory fuel pump has been tested to happily deliver enough fuel for 500hp (373 kW), so anyone who suggests that an additional fuel pump or rising rate regulator is required for anything up to or slightly in excess of these figures is simply looking to sell something that isn't needed". Granted the factory fuel pump will probably support the HP you talk of, the contention is that over a period of time the factory pump starts to delivery less as it wears, ergo, the second pump. I had a couple of 9inch hotdogs put into the system and cut the airbox then inserted the xr8 nozzle into the rubber coupling. Car sounds much better now and power has come back somewhat. I'm going to take it back to Slakos and have the unichip done again. Re the warranty fears some people have, my selling dealer (who shall remain nameless here) is aware of all the mods I've had done and couldn't give a toss. I'm booked in for a new diff next week, service manager knows the car makes 300 + kW and basically said good onya give me a drive, said he loved it, then mumbled some thing about Ford keeping a warranty eye on those fitting gearchargers to the new 4x4 V8 utes and doing 4 wheel burnouts. So as usual, "Going Ford Is The Going Thing". I'm going for a spin now ta ta.P.S Has anybody got any info on better valve springs?

David Inall said there'd soon be a release to the public of better springs & a fitting tool that 'll enable the user to replace in car without head removel.Scotty
