I got a good idea, why doesn't someone hang a T72 off the side of an XR8!!!

sorry, I'm just bored....

Dave.

Because you aren't allowed to drive with things hanging out the side of your car .... heheheh.

Not even if your bladder is really full? :tosser:

Henry> funny that several people have been running 9psi and above for quite some kms and haven't yet had a problem with the bottom end - certainly not going to argue with the fact that you could make the bottom end stronger but just questioning the cost benefit unless you are chasing 500 hp ??? - valve springs however are a known issue, even on the atmo engines, so that seems to be a luck of the draw thing if you got a bad set of springs in your motor. I believe the springs have had a production line upgrade to ensure no new motors will suffer the prob.

Henry

I've been running about 9 lb boost for some time now (about 8,000 ks) and I have experienced no problems at all. I intend to change my oil a bit more regularly than every 15,000 ks, but I recon the T's engine is very strong. I guess if it did s**t itself, then would be the time to do some mods. But why waste the $ unless, as the other guys are saying, you are going for really serious power.

I can't tell you how much fun the car is to drive with an extra 50 or 60 Kw (haven't dyno'd it yet). I drove a rental V6 Late model camira last week and could not believe how incredibly gutless it was, I tried overtaking and was shocked at the lack of power, I guess it all becomes relative.

The only problem is lack of warranty after modification. I was ammused to see City Ford sponsor this site, as they basically told me I can't even get my car tuned by them now that it's modified... I thought they would be more open minded. :smashedtooth:

I've done some 4000 k's at 8.5 - 9 psi of boost, and absolutely no problems with the engine.

I agree with gareth, and I'm going to change my engine oil a bit more frequently.

I run Castrol synthetic 10w60.

Have any of you guys read this, http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/falcon/l.../legalities.htm

All I can say is people have been hotting up cars for a long time and unless your one of those idiots that hang out causing trouble doing burn out's in areas like brighton le sands in Sydney, this whole page is really another marketing tactic by APS.

I find it very strange that I will need to carry engineering paper around for my car, ive been driving a hotted up XY for over 10 years and sure I've been done for speeding and neg driving but I never been asked for a engineers certificate.

I'd understand if we were driving escorts around with big V8's fair enough, I think I've said enough.

Gentleman:

This is not a scare tactic by APS. Its the law. One of my staff drive a modded MR2 GT turbo. The other day they pullled him over and went to town on him. His car is modified and he has not got to get an engineers certificate to comply if he can.

My office is nest door to SVI in Brisbane and they certify imports. they have cleaned most of the importers up in the last 6 months as well. He now has to crash test each model of car he imports to satisfy his licence even though the modle may have been sold here!

For 20 years its been against the law to modify cars away from standard. The genddames have turned a blind eye to it in the past and now they are taking notice for safety and in IMHO revenue.

Be warned. If you modify your vehicle and you dont have it enginneered you are breaking the law.

My Pajero has an extra fuel tank. Simple mod that many off roaders do. It has a extra engineers compliance plate so its legal.

APS are out there selling a product and if you buy it you must satisfy yourself that when plod pulls you up and he will - that your comply. I would rather have a certificate than a defect notice any day.

There has been a lot of imports defected in sydney as well, but remember we don't drive imported cars, as long as your car isn't very loud or to low you shouldn't get to many problems with the police. You have to take one look at the cars that get noticed by the police and you'd understand what I mean, bis shiny wheels lowered one inch of the ground, an exhaust of a top fueler etc etc, a car that looks like something out of the fast and the furious movie will get you noticed and that's where it all begins.

If you keep you car stock looking and sounding as stock as possible you shouldn't have any problems.

At the end of the day the law has to be obeyed but hey up can bend the rules a little, if your not a rule bender you wouldn't be driving a XR6T.

chrislak< you are missing the most important aspect of the modified vehicle compliance argument - what will happen to your insurance if you don't have the engineer's certificate????

I wouldn't be too worried about plod and a minor fine or defect notice - but I'd sure as hell be concerned about Murphy - he follows me around, making my life as difficult as possible at every turn and it would be just my luck to run into a bloody Rolls or something ... I need my insurance!!!
