The plan for the XR6T, is to upgrade power after running the car in for 5000k's or so.  The final dilemma B4 signing on the dotted line is the gearbox.  I'd love a manual, however, I'm concerned that the T5 will hand grenade itself on me after the mods.  Can any of the members with power upgrades provide me with any feedback on their cars, re the manual gearbox?

auto vs manual ... there a number of threads around the place

try this thread B)

I reckon the auto works extremely well with the turbo ... feels like a strong box but early days :(

the manual has got plenty of flack ... sure they are loosening up a bit and running smoother (or their drivers got a handle them)

If your goal is to go ballistic with mods ... then go the manual and when it grenades get a TKO box and stronger clutch ... keep the clutch the weakest link though (IMO)

haven't heard of too many probs with the trannies .... but the mods are just starting to flow ... <_<

Thanks for the feedback gents,

Reading the thread you highlighted, really indicated that the car is magic either way you go so, go with your gut instinct. In my case, I ordered the manual on Friday. I think the decision really came down to "what do you really enjoy driving". I thought of 8.00 am winter mornings on the way up the hills to Montville (ring any bells dynosteve?) (for non Qld'ers its not the Great Ocean Road but still a blast). I guess the laggy nature of the current ride also played a part.

It will be interesting to see how the T5 copes with the additional torque. As it is, I think I'll never reach the KW numbers Dynosteve is going for (but I'll continue to watch with interest and saliv8 :D )

ok boosted who are you, you've got me thinking now.

Just another guy in Brisbane waiting for his new toy. Considering the amount of work you put into your cars I figured you'd know some of best roads where U can enjoy the fruits of your labour. :D

peak boost was 11.3lb's and held steady from 3300 to 5300rpm we were able to run a little more boost but here seemed a safer avenue.

peak hp was 5250rpm

running on bp ultimate (had heaps of probs with optimax)

We fitted our kit which we developed

Larger injectors

600hp motorsport intank pump

Rdp Computer

Boost Solenoid

intercooler pipes

3" mandrel exhaust system

cooler plugs

Race air filter

2 rolls of heat wrap

blowoff valve

How much would you charge to install this kit stevo? and what is the time needed to install/test?

As stated before we have had a chip torque piggy back unit fitted. It was fitted 2 weeks ago as the system is still under devolpment we have had it adjusted a few times to iron out little bugs but it is now going great or should I say like a bat out of hell.215 rwkw from auto it has transformed the car into a hsv basher.there will be more work done as money and time premit next step bigger injectors to allow more boost, now runs 9 pound boost and really likes to rev out now, we have also fitted 3.5 inch exhaust and ss inductions cold air intake T goes great and sounds even greater on the road.

I was talking to my service manager today who advised he had a turbo in yesturday with a piston no 2 totally destroyed, he also said Ford Melbourne sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle who found the wiring to the ecu had been tampered with and a uni.... sticker inside the car. Ford voided warranty staright away and poor guy now is up for $5500.00 for a new engine.

What amazed me was that the car had been tweaked a very well know Sydney tweaker shop. Now this might be a one off, or possibly they tried to push the engine to hard.

Apparently ford can find out any overboost from the ecu.

This has got me very concerened as I to have been talking to a performance shop making arangement to squeeze 330kw from my engine.

I'm pretty open minded and possibly the service manager is full sh.., the above was basicly his responce when I asked him if any of his customers had chipped there cars.

I'll let you guys decide FACT or FICTION!!!
