Turbotrana I have no doubts as to the claims you are making on the GT40 series of turbo’s that Garrett makes. But the turbo in the XR6 might not be the same turbo(s) that you have found in the catalogue?

Hi guys Ive only just found this site. I dont have the xr turbo yet, Im trying to wait for 2004 you guys just wind me up.I feel like buying one tomorow. One comment on the HP these cars will produce Ive got a twin cam cosworth with 400 plus, the head on the six looks very similar in desighn to my 4.Its attention to detail, so far its looking exciting. Anyway time for a cold shower. Better still, Ill play with my wife.

Ford state they use a Garrett GT40 (which is not completely correct as they dont use Garretts turbine side). Garrett Performance have two turbos in the GT40 range. One that has a .72 a/r compressor and the other with a .58 a/r compressor. Fords compressor is .58 A/r. It is definately the smaller GT40 ford use.

Another point in regards to the turbine is that its internal wastegate which will also impede on power production.

Dynosteve states that's hes got 447 @ 12psi. If hes got the pumps/injectors/ems/tuning all set up correctly its just a matter of a few more psi worth of boost to hit 500rwhp. And remember hes running an auto. If that was manual there would be few more horses there. As the turbo has got a relatively 'high' 8.7 : 1 compression ratio he may have to add 20% toluene to do it safely.

Dynosteve, I dont think you will have to crack the motor open till over 550 to 600 rwhp. Ive currently got a AU 4l apart and the ACL pistons are brilliant compared to what they used to make say 10 years ago. The ACL pistons will not cause any problems. I used to think the rods were the weak point but there are several guys I am aware of that are using stock rods and are over 550rwhp on the dyno. Since the AU, they are using a triple layered metal head gasget which is another plus. So this motor could go pretty high without touching internals (provided you dont detonate it). The real problem lies with the gearboxes on offer. I dont think your auto will last too long. This will be the first item to go if using slicks. My experience with manuals is the tyres will break traction before they can load the trans enough to break it. If slicks are used with the T5 it will break it.

G'day Guys,

My name is Amjid, and am only 23. I thought I'd introduce myself and my car, and tell you guys about another after market tuner. I bought my xr6t last year in November, one of the first in Brissy. Neway I've been following the after market industry with a keen eye, and one supplier that I dont think has been mentioned is Chiptorque on the Gold Coast. They're also developing a piggy back computer an "Xede" and have nearly finnished it yet. They reccon it'll make about and extra 45 rwkW. It'll cost round $1200-1300. Youo can contact them for the proper amount and other info.

But a bit on my car. I'ts shilloute, 5 spd, 18" wheels, premium sound, sports steering, DVD- Sat Nav.

If any of you have read the article in Motor Magazine about the APS xr6t, and remeber the opening about the perfect car, well I might have one or be very close. I recently ran a 13.8 sec 1/4mile @ 105mph at Willowbank, that's on standard tyres etc. Haven't touched the car, its as stock as it comes. I got it dyno'd and it has bout 205 at the rears at the moment.

I also have the first opportunity to get the Unichip in Qld for the turbo, one of 10 available, the other 9 are bound for Vic. tuning shops, so I dont no who I'll go with. I'll wait and see.

And I was thinking geez that 24 valve head is good. The trana did 481 at about 22 psi but it runs 7 : 1 compression.

Have you ever thought about getting rid of the EF type manifold and putting on an EB manifold and cross flow intercooller. You would have to relocate the battery. The turbo only uses the long runners and I've measured both EB and EF manifolds and the EB manifold is only 2cm shorter than the long runners on the EF type. By doing this you would achieve a better flow path.

Anyways that's whats I'm in the process of doing.
