Today I spoke to my local Ford service division, and informed them of my intent to purchase and modify a BA XR6T. According to them ford have instructed that they be absolutly tight on warranty issues. The guys reckon even changing the exhaust or anything, no matter how small will void the warranty!! This has shattered me, considering they didn't really mind honouring the warranty on my AU and I have done heaps to that....

Changing any car with a turbo has the potential to dramatically increase power and torque when compared to an NA car. Even changing the exhaust could potentially result in a significant hike which could be enough for some of the drivetrain components. That's probably what they'd be concerned about.

If you dump the cluth at 5000 RPM in a standard WRX, you'll be lucky to have a gearbox left. High Octane 2 has a sequence of a rex getting it's clutch dumped and you can see the gear bits fall out underneath.

I would agree with that - a rex gb will not last maybe 8 x 5000rpm launches.

Subaru are the same on warranties - they would not let me put a muffler on without ruining the engine/drivetrain warranty (obviously if I put a muffler on and a door fell off it would be a different story).

They wouldnt warrant the engine if you changed the exhaust? Thats a bit harsh.

Friends of mine fitted a non-airbag compatible bullbar to an EL sedan. Some time later (still in warranty) the fuel pump died. Ford wouldn't cover it and they claimed the owner had voided warranty on the car FRONT TO BACK by fitting a non factory accessory.
