I was considering this option for Bullet but after doing some discussion it was found the the GTR is alot lighter than the Ford. But if you put the same rear end into a Ford Sedan with the exra weight the rear end will actually be alot weaker than the current ford set up.

Dave.  :spoton:

I'm in total agreeance.

I believe that the massive (and sharp) torque hit the XR6T engine produces when modified, coupled with the weight of vehicle will prove to cause failure of the GTR rear end at lower levels than the stock components.

Cheers,

Ross

I guess the proof will be in the finished product - I am sure at some point the ute will make its way onto both the circuit and to the drags. Last time it was at the drags it broke the Ford rear end - lets see if this one holds up. My money is on Simon the whole way :pinch: and I am sure this will hold up fine!

Cheers, :spoton:

Dave.

in drag GTR's isnt the torqe split between front and rear wheels hence creating way less load on the rear end of a gtr

I think you will find that it is shock loading when dumping the clutch that breaks most drive line components. I am tipping it will be quite awhile before Simon is side stepping the clutch at 10 or 11,000 rpm like the 8 sec GTR guys do.

Surely a watts linkage rear end with coilovers and a well built nine inch would be

A: easier to engineeer

B: More adjustable

C: Cheaper

D: Stronger

Question: why don't you put a 9inch in the ute & then forget about it?

Simons reply:

I think using a 2000 model GTR rear suspension system may be a tad nicer than 1970 9 inch,I'm a bit of a fan of going round corners even though it may be more work fitting it.

BUT can it carry a full tonne??

and do we care..  :spoton:

The Nizpro guys say yes - just in case you ever wanted to - but would just need to correct spring and damper settings!

The XR cant carry 1 tonne with stock suspension. Its limited to 500kg of payload, that's before you inc petrol in fuel tank and cabin occupants. Standard style side utes are rater at 750kg, and 1 tonne supension is only available on cab chassis vehicle, even then you have to minus the weight of the tray you put on it to get a correct payload figure. They do have an optional 8 leaf heavy duty shock absorber version from factory. This is easily up to the 1 tonne task, but it will jar your back if you dont carry weight in it all the time. :spoton:

You are 100% correct Tony!! :pinch:

perhaps I should have said you would need stupidly stiff springs and dampers, which would be crap for normal driving! :pinch:

This is clearly not the intent of what Simon is doing - perhaps I should have ignored Ben's stir :tease: !!!!

Thanks!

Ben.
