Well, after a good 25mins reading through those links posted, it seems (well, it was said) that thse problems were contributing factor of at least two of these ideas;

1- the car above 180 isnt stable due to excessive heat

2- oil grade is inapproate for the type of work

3- underlying problem in ways not related to the actual use of the vehicle (read; oil blockage etc etc)

so I think and *touchwood* that ill see my dealer to put a better grade oil in, and maybe keep the right foot on or below 160 :(

as much as I love my speed and I get there quicker, just might save me in the long term.

ps - was sixfan's T a BA? BAII? or BF? and those engine rpm's he's quoted for the 4auto/5manual/6manual or 6auto? Me having the 6auto just might be the "fix" to this problem in itself?

Were there any other engine/driveline prblems fixed/upgraded from the BAII > BF series? this may of also corrected any kind of problem im likely to encounter.

Look forward to yoru feedback.

Ben.

Go the turbo get a external engine oil cooler fitted to it .... the best of both worlds

speed and reliability... there u go

Definitely run a better oil as good old mineral oil is not up to the task for high heat or extreme conditions such as the heat and speed in NT.

There was a topic the other day about engine oil coolers. See here

Any Oners from the NT who's got a 6manual/6auto box can tell me what rpm they are floating around when up in the top 150km+ km/hour brackets?

or anyone from anywhere else in the know other then Territorians feel free to reply too

T56 in 6th gear 2000 rpm @ 100 Km/h, so should be 3000 rpm @ 150 Km/h, right in the meat of power range.

Sell the heap of   and buy a Boss 290  :spoton:

Yeah, I suppose in doing that, the lack of performance out of the Boss 290 will prevent you from cruising at 180 kph :crybaby:

and with 40+ Lper100 I don't think he would make it to Darwin!! :pinch:

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the first two, the only reason old mate sixfan didn't overcome these himself was the fear of the only dealer within a few thousand k’s blaming any modifications (even though they would undoubtedly help) for any further failure.

They kept replacing turbos without to much questioning; it was just the sheer inconvenience of it being off the road so often that put him behind the wheel of a bitsandpieces. Poor man :crybaby:

That's the price you have to pay for open speed limits I guess.....my heart bleeds for you guys!

I drove south from the NT earlier this year consistently sitting about 140 - 160Km/h with a manual6 and it went like a dream, sitting around 2500 - 3000 rpm, though the higher the speed the higher the engine temp, makes sense I suppose. Since arriving on the east coast the engine/turbo seem fine, car seems to go quicker because of the cooler temps down here. Only thing I did was put in a good synthetic oil with a slightly higher operating viscosity (Motul 10w/40 I think) also let the car idle and cool down before switching it off and changed the oil as soon as I had finished the trip as its about 5000k's. Anyway coming back up in about 6 weeks and lookin to upgrade with cooler, injectors, exhaust and custom tune, so hopefully the tuners up there have got there act together by now... but I guess that is for another thread.

Ive been up here for about 3 years and had no dramas whatsoever with the turbo. Ive always run standard oils. But that's just me. And I have done consistant 230kph+ runs when she was a stocky and had no problems at all.

Dont do it anymore, I dont trust the new tyres and rims or have 100% confidence in the brakes. (heaps more go= not enough stop) But im fixing that, then it will be time for another run to see what magic HPF have done by removing the limiter!!

And the only advise I can give you is STAY AWAY FROM DARWIN FORD. Its the only dealer up here and they will do everything in their power to piss you off, convince you they dont know anything about fords, and f*ck your car!!

And the tuning scene up here still doesnt know anything about the brand new ba falcon turbo. They must of missed the press release.....
