Mal, would you use Castrol SAF-XA 80W-140 in a diff, or is the LS 90 best?

We have been using Shell LS 90 for a long time and have found it to be quite good, I am a creature of habit and if I find a product that works great I don't look further. The oil companys are so competative these days and I believe that there is not a great deal of difference in the mineral oils available through the major ones. I suppose it comes down to personel choice and all that the sponsors on the forum can do is give their opinions based on experience. Mal

I know that this is an old thread but it does touch on a lot of issues with the BA and BF, another one we found last week was a vibe that starts at about 50kph and just gets worse!!! After close inspection we found that the tailshaft tube was distorted, not as bad in the front section but the rear section of tube was bad.

As it turns out the rear section of tailshaft has rubber in it probably used as a tailshaft damper to stop driveline vibe or drone.

Anyway we replaced the both sections of tube with new heavier wall tube and done another balance and all seems well. Mal

Please help, my diff is driving me crazy, it has more play in it than a Sydney hooker. I have taken it to 2 ford dealers and both have advised that is has approx 45mm of backlash and that anything under 50 is acceptable. It also is a little noisy around the 100 mark as in whining. The car has only done 58,000ks  Does anyone know a dealer that I might have some luck with getting it overhauled or replaced.

Give domineli at kirrawee a go
