Any light that is below the level of the headlights is classified as a fog light.

Um... I don't think that's right. "Daytime Running Lights"? The sort that switch on when a vehicle is indicating? There are several makes and models of cars that have Daytime Running Lights installed alongside Fog Lights.

So does that mean that parking lamps (or turn indicators) mounted below the headlights are fog lamps?  :birthdaywish:

I just knew someone would say that, the answer is no they have there own ADR, that said which car has it's turn signals mounted below the headlight.

Standbye checking to see if I have the relevant legislation on hand, so that I can quote.

I only use my 'Driving Lights' in the daytime, and this only to improve my visibility to other road users.

Why not use the headlights?

The headlights are much brighter, and higher than your foglights so will be seen first. Especially when comming over a crest.

I don't get why people try justify the use of foglights by saying they improve their visibility to others when the main lights do a much better job, and aren't illegal.

Sorry looks like it's in the traffic regulations which I don't have on me atm, I'll look it up tommorow during the day and bury this issue once an for all.

From memory with daytime running lights the beam is pointed to the side of the vehicle as the blinker is flashing not to the front.

I don't reall the make/model. I do remember seeing one yesterday though. Hrmm..it may have been a VW Golf or Jetta but again, I'm not 100% certain.

BTW, I'm not having a go, just saw the opportunity to be silly and ask. :tease:

No case for them during the day. As stated earlier on in this thread though, they illuminate out to the side Ie the fog lines during fog. This ability in non foggy conditions, illuminates the side of the road where dogs, pedestrians, dark clothed individuals who see fit to run at night, and so on. In a dimly lit suburban street. Fog lights are brilliant in giving the driver that much better situational awareness.

I have driven with them on anight for as long as I can remeber, everytime I read a thread like this then I turn them off, not wanting to be a law breaker and end up turning them on again as they reaaly alow more vision to the sides of the road. I rekon that they would also light up grazing roos at night as well.

The best thing to do would be remove the lights and add some ducts to help brake cooling, there in the perfect spot.
