I have never taken my car down the strip. I have a few questions pleaseI have 260rwkw and is a 6sp Manual1) I have new 19" wheels on the car with 265 on rear. They are 1 week old. Should I run with these or put my stockers on with Dunlop Rubber about a few mm of tread2) Do I need to do a burnout - Just the with the 19" or 17" or both3) What tyre pressure do I run - again please specify 19" or 17"When I had the stockers the car would break traction in first and chirp 2nd. The difference in traction between a drag strip start line and the street is immense. I would suggest that if you are running the standard clutch then that could possibly be the weak point (slippage).As for tyre pressure, I have no idea. I ran mine with the standard 40psi I drive on the street with. With slicks, it would be a different story altogether.Good luck and have fun. Just enough to warm them up a little bit.As stated by 4runner, enough wheel spin to get the water off the tyres.If the 19's give you better grip on the street, they'll give you even more at the strip. Try and stage yourself so that you set up over a track section with plenty of rubber already laid into the surface. Rubber to rubber contact is very grippy. (line up behind a car with serious grunt running slicks, he's sure to prepare a good surface for you. Just be prepared to wipe off lots of rubber bits from the inside of your guards and rear skirts. )As to pressure on 19's ..... No idea, but generally lower pressures will provide a greater contact patch on the track.... If he struggles to break traction with the 19s on, then the 17's on a prepared track will provide even more grip than his 19's. I'd say this would be ideal, since it doesn't matter if he tears them to bits and he'll probably get just enough slip to prevent the thing from bogging down.From what I've read on here and other places, with street tyres the pressure has only a slight effect on traction, but the best results are usually found while using 6-12 psi under the recommendation on the plaque (inside the door). So, if it says you should be using 32, then I'd be inclined to run 20-24, just depends on your preference... Some guys go lower, but there really isn't any point...You're only going to notice a slight difference; don't try taking any corners at speed while the pressure is down....[EDIT] Just take both tyres with you, if the 17's suck royally, then stick the 19's on. If you do happen to use the 19's though, then I suggest lowering the pressure much more than 8psi under... Just to be safe. Whether that better tread depth, or better compund.2.0 60' is a good time to get off the line in. I did this on Dunlops with 40psi. Not better off dropping the pressures on the 19's. 17's might show a little gain with dropped pressure. Don't ride the clutch tooo much, because with the better grip the wheels won't spin, and ALL the slip will be in the clutch = bad.. You'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 perfect launches. Do a burnout in 2nd gear.. Just drop the clutch in 2nd in the water, creep forward till your on the dry stuff, then sit near the limmiter for around 5 seconds . You will know when the tyres are sticky, coz the car will crab forwards and want to get going instead of spin.. Short shift 2nd ( 4500rpm ) so you don't go up in wheelspin when you stab the gas to get going again.Change each gear just above peak torque.
