hey all I took the old mans xr6 done to ford today to get a couple issues sorted out,one was the handbrake adjustment, quote frm invoice, "removed rear wheels and brake rotors, carried out major handbrake adjustment, refitted rotors and wheels- $87.80

does that sound right to anyone I always thought it would be a warranty job but it isnt, dad doesnt know bout it and when he finds out sh*t is going to hit the fan, so I will be going up to ford with him when he goes to tell them to wake up

Good practice is to get a quote from any service provider before work is carried out. When you drop off the car, tell them to call you if anything is found that will deviate from the quote. It's important to provide a contact number and ARE available to take calls. That way there's NO surprises.

And if there are, you have a sound basis upon which to argue your point.

I can also see it from the service provider's point of view.... If an issue is uncovered in the course of servicing a vehicle, It's more timely to get it repaired whilst it's booked in and on the hoist for example.... It will cost you less (at least in lost time, if not money) to get it done then. But that's a risk for the service provider if they have NOT been able to confirm if you want the work undertaken.

And yes, if your vehicle is still under warranty, I would have thought that handbrake adjustment would be covered, as there have been significant issues regarding the handbrake on , Mk1 BA's I think.

Hand brakes are not a warrantable item as they are classed as a "wearable" component. However with the new TSB it may be a warranty fix now :idunno:

The new TSB is a warranty fix because they replace the handbreak mechanism within the rear hubs. Nothing to do with wear-n-tear.

Is the TSB for just the MK1 or includes the MK2 as well?

I got my handbrake adjusted on the 15K service, cost me about the same.
