Replacing Fuel Filter

being that the fittings are steel and the filter body is ally they are probbaly siezed. Try tighening the fittings slightly first. This can help to free a galled thread. Also get some "penetrene" its basically kero and petrol mixed together. the petrol helps the kero to wick into the thread. Failing that i would take to the filter with hack saw and cut the threads from the filter. Then split them length ways to free the thread. A small smear of an antisieze compound woul probably stop this happening again...

I tried the oxy torch suggestion, but it made my car explode... and other suggestions? hehe

I'll give it another shot today and try tighten it a little bit then go for it again.

I think the fact that my jack only lifts the car up so much, and it only gives me a little bit of room to work with under the car doesnt help. its very hard to put a lot of force into it when the car is only like 1 inche above your chest.

Never work under a car with just a jack, you are just asking for trouble.

Jack stands are cheap insurance.

Changed mine last week, the stock pump came out easy but once you install your new one check for leaks, check for leaks and check again had to undo and tighten the new one 3 times before it stopped dripping, freakin box said something like low torque flange, low torque my ass, had 2x spanners squeezin the faaark out of em to stop it drippin. Dunno Maybe I just got a dud or damage flange.

Jack Collapse - A Warning

I dont have a set of jack stands yet, but im using a decend jack (not a standard ford one) and it may sound stupid, but I laid my 4 x 17" rims underneath the cars chasis so if the jack failed the car would be sitting on the tyre/rims. Id rather damage those than my head

I know its stupid, but I wanted to get the job done that day. I think I'll invest in some jack stands next weekend however

Well I took it to a mechanic down the road from my work, we put it up on the hoist and he CANNOT undo the bolts. He tried so hard it was going to either snap the spanners or bend the fuel line somehow (yes we used 2 spanners going opposite directions...etc). I rekon its going to need the fuel rail replaced on either side of the filter back to the tank and up to close to the engine bay where theres a join in the line - cos its not coming off at all!

Looks like im going to have to leave it to Ford to do when it goes in for whatever reason. I have the new filter in the box still, so there shouldn't be any problems with me handing them a new one and saying to fit it when its there next?? Its the proper one for the car by the way.
