I noticed a thread about you guys organizing a possible good buy on some MT's for the VBWII. Just wondering a few things,

Did you end up with a super deal from anywhere?

Do the 275 40r17 fit ok on the XR 17 inch wheels? or am I better off buying some 16 inch rims and tyres?

Does a standard XR 17 inch wheel with 275 40r17's fit ok on the rear of a BA GT?

There is a few of us from Canberra heading down to launch an attach on the AFF drag nationals, on the 9th of Sept at Heathcote.

We know nothing about drag racing really, but im hoping to run a 12 on my first ever run down the strip, that's if nerves dont get to me first!!!

Cheers Guys!

the M/T's fit ok on the standed rims,

and the standed 17's fit on the back of GT's, but I don't think they fit on the front.

group buy did not eventuate....

Prices varied quite a bit for the M/T ET Street Radials P275/40R17

I was quoted $370 per tyre plus delivery from Rocket Industries (the wholesaler)

I got a best price of $315 each + $15 fitting from SuperPlus (Hallam, Vic) when ringing around.

One of the Sydney boys... I think it was MaxPower, could get them for $295 each.

M/T ET Street Radial 17"

Then GEEA came along and introduced me to George Haddad (HADDAD Racing)

He is located right next door to HP-F in Dandenong....

2 brand new M/T's for $275 each.

Thank you George, and thank you Craig :stupid:

lesson is ..... shop around.

(big difference to original quote of $370 ea, hey.)

Quite a few guys run them successfully on stock 17x8's.

I managed to score a couple of 17x9 alloys from one of the marauding Vikings that ventured south for bvwe2.

The MT IS TOO WIDE for an 8" rim.

It will go on, but the footprint is pretty bad. You don't use the whole width of the tyre. Nasty..

Shop around for 17x9's.. I picked mine up cheap enough..

You sure about that....

Plenty of good times have been put down using these tyres on 17x8 rims...

with the low tyre pressure which is used for these, there's still quite a bit of rubber making contact...

They are exceptionally wide after all....

But you are right in saying the recommended rim width is 9 to 11 inches.

I guess it's fair to say the best potential for these tyres would be with the manufacturers' recommendations.

Might be worth that 0.005 seconds

:crybaby:
