Forum goooers

I have a problem with my cars duco. My cars duco has many little swirly scratches on it. I want to use Meguires Scratch X to cut the scratches out. Is ther a better product? what is the best way to apply a cut polish? Is there any tricks or tips that I can use to get the duco perfect first time?

lots of good cutting polishes about.... but understand that they work by removing the top layer of paint to provide a smooth surface.

Just a question to the paint & panel guru's here....

Clay bars.....

My daughter's Mazda was recently repaired, and when I went to pick it up I noticed there was fine overspray over the rear bootlid... felt rough to the touch.

They got stuck into it with a clay bar, and within about 10 minutes, the entire bootlid panel surfaces were as smooth as a baby's bum. And nice and shiny too.

I've personally never used a clay bar before. Can't say I've seen them for sale at typical car parts/accesories outlets.... but then again, I've never looked for them.

Is it an alternative method for polishing a car, or is it a preparation procedure prior to polishing?

What's the good oil? Are they good? and how is a clay bar best used?

The clay bar is something which removes surface contaminants without actually touching the clear coat. It basically glides along on a very thin film of water which u spray on (ie meguiars quik detailer) and rubbing the clay bar around collects everything not attached to the clear coat. You would then apply a good polish and wax to the completely clean surface of the car. Definitely worth doing every 6 months or so IMO

I have placed this in other topics and its worth having a read. STEP BY STEP GUIDES TO CLEANING YOUR PRIDE AND JOY

I didn't know much about polishing, clay bars etc and after trying the clay bar and paint cleaner then polish you will be amazed how the paint looks and feels.

clay bars are the way to go but you only do it once a year.. just a squirt of quick detailer every month and a weekly wash and there ya go!!
