Low Viscosity Oil - Should I Be Worried?

As long as the last number is 40, it'll be fine. Synthetics are better for many reasons, one being that they will hold their hot vicosity rating for longer than mineral oils. So your 0W-40 synthetic will probably still be 0W-40 after 10,000 kms but a 15W-40 mineral oil might end up 20W-30.

But $210 for an oil change??? RIP OFF!

HP-F recommend 5-30w.

I use ELF fully synthetic, absolutely brilliant oil.. you wouldnt even consider the new edge, sin oils after using it!!

Bugger after reading a topic on oil 3 months ago I went and got some Castrol oil, now it seems that it has gone out of favour. Why is ELF better, and at what cost. For the guys with stock T's or slightly modded T's is there any real need to spend big bucks on oil, when a decent oil changed regulary will do?

What are you baseing this assessment on, I'm not arguing or trying to be a smart arse I'd just like to know what factors your judging it's performace on.

Look at troughs sig, he's a sheep, if someone says it's good, well it must be!  :spoton:

actually the sheep statement isnt aimed at me at all... :fool:

have a look at ELF's status in racing over the years, I think that's enough proof!

Yeah mate but you are running some decent power, I cannot see why a slightly modded, or no mods at all would have to run such an expensive oil.

I dont know how you actually can tell that it is better, as some have said the test is in pulling the engine apart after heaps of use.

Not to mention that Castrol have been heavily involved in motor racing of all description for years as well.

Mate I am not trying to be difficult or a pain in the ass, and I have no preference.

It is just that I went with Castrol on advice from this forum, and almost as soon as I did, it seemed to go out of favour and everbody was talking about different oils.

Has got me stuffed.

im sure the castrol is damn good im not saying it isnt..

and the ELF stuff is pretty hard to find only a couple of main franchises deal with them. bursons, where I found it have only started selling it 2 months ago.

and as to running a better oil on a modded T, I dont know about your dealer but our local ford dealer only puts fuch's 10/30 cfx in. which is good enough for a TAXI!!

I figure if u love it, then show it :spoton:

If the recommended hot rating is 40 I wouldn't be using anything less.

I agree on std power terms, but when more boost and higher power figures are achieved then circumstances would change.

best bet would be to ask your tuner what they would reccomend.
