When I questioned the bill ($210 - heaps more than I've paid before) they said that since the car's done 30,000km, they used a Castrol fully synthetic oil, 5 - 40/50? and that it was better than the semi-synthetic oil they've used previously (15-40 Castrol). I was a bit concerned because they wouldn't have told me if I didn't question the bill. I told them that the Ford manual states that 15-40 is recommended but the service guy said no, I should be using the fully synthetic one. I said okay, I don't want to tell you how to do your job and he then charged me $148 (which would have been the cost for the 15-40 oil) so I thought that was okay and I left. However, the more I think about it, the more I'm worrying. Do you think the oil is too thin?Should I take the car back and ask to get the oil changed back to what they were always using? Any thoughts?

Which dealership is this, I want a job if that's how long it takes to do that work

That's my therory anyway. Castrol edge 0W40 is approved for use by FPV so I doubt they would recomend an oil that could cause you problems. I'm not saying it's no good for the XR6T though...Engine oils still confuse the hell out of me. For what it's worth I'm using Castrol Edge 10W-60. Before this my dealer was putting in Castrol FMX which is a semi-synthetic 15W-40.
