Paranormal Member 469 Member For: 21y 2m 13d Location: Brissy Posted 15/07/06 10:51 AM Share Posted 15/07/06 10:51 AM Here we goes again anyway - There are only a couple of oil co, that produce a fully synthetic oil rated at the same specs as the manual states which form mem ory is 15-40w or 15-45wYou must run in your car for first 3-6k with a mineral oil then if you wish switch to a full synthetic you should. For a perfectly matched full synthetic usine the ultimate and best technology - Redline 15-40w but its about $125 per 3.8ltr or bout $99 trade and you'll need 2XHave never bought Royal Purple but it is same weight and they have one speciffically designed for the xr6turbo expect it to be about same price and one of the best you could buy. Other than Redline, I've only used Motul. For the off the shelf oils do a search, many people here run mobil 1. I would NOT go with Casrol Edge as only their 5-30w Oil is a high quailty oil and still not fully synth, and its too thin, thier 10-60w oil would be the most sutilbe for the xr6t but is a lower quaility oil even though branded the same. New Penzoil Ultimate gets the best thumbs up in the USA market for price / performance. Check - Bob is the oil guy for info on any oil just do a search on their site . The other day I took my car to a Ford dealer for an oil and oil filter change (done every 5000km). They told me they used a fully synthetic 5 - 40/50 (not sure) Castrol oil. I questioned them about this cos before they were using the semi-synthetic 15-40 Castrol. Reply was that my car's done 30000km so now I should be using a fully synthetic 5-50 oil. The Ford book says 15-40, they're telling me something else. What's correct?

What's correct?←Like I said in previous post, Ford specify 15-40w oil, added to that is their are only a couple of fully synthetic oils avalible in this weight and are expensive!! so unless you wath to use them then I suggest you use what ford reccomend or supply your own oil when due for service and make sure what ever oil you provide you ask them to note it down and that it will be covered under warranty. I always supply my own oil Motul or Redline and always ask them if the oil is ok under warranty. The only time they said NO was when I supplies Transmax Z oil for the gearbox. Thay said no so I let em replace the box oil with ford reccomended.

At 22500 km I changed my oil to a fully synthetic Castrol oil. I intend to provide this oil to Ford at my next service, so on and so on. I would suggest that after initial bedding in of the engine, then any half decent correctly weighted oil changed at regular intervals not 15000km, would be better than nothing.I might be wrong but as this guy asking is relatively new, I reckon he is unmodded or low modded and in the same boat as me. Redline or Motul would have to be a bit of overkill for him.Scotty

The ONLY reason I specified REDLINE and ROYAL PURPLE / Motul is they They are the ONLY companies they produce oil in the 15-40w FULLY synthetic range. AND ARE EXPENSIVE and is the wieght Ford specify. I then said if you use any other fully synthetic oil which will probably be a different wieght. Please confirm it is ok with your for dealer befor using it. All other synthetic oils do no match Ford specs. However most Ford Dealers will happliy use Moibil 1 or any other oil as long as your dealer feels it is not too thin or out side their specs. Even though the only thing in side their specs and avalible in a full synthetic is the ones I"ve mentioned. But hey run any oil you want sh*t put gtx2 in if you want as long as your dealer say cool man we'll put it in and warranty that. Other wise theres tons of different oils better than the stuff ford recommend like mobil 1 and several others theres many post about which oil blah blan blah just clear it with your dealear and have them put it in your engine and not problem. But I'm only going to reccomend what fits ford specs end story.

Got my last lot free in exchange for some IT services. But I am up for my next service and enquired at Bursons on some Redline and trade price is like $99 for 3.8ltr and you need two of em to fill the turbs.
