If a thief had rebirthing on the mind, then maybe he'd think twice about trying it with a car that has its "DNA" sprayed all over it. Won't matter how many id plates he removes, unless he wants to re-spray absolutely everything. Probably won't be worth the hassle. Just another deterent really.

As far as damage goes - there's not much you can do to prevent it really. Some people simply have no respect for others property. My advice - plan your parking!

It's been good to read other guys opinions on Datadot Ive been uming and rr-ing for months whether to get it or not its not cheap but I think I'll go for it. For those who are interested I got quoted $490 without warranty and $683 with warranty. Datadot pays $500 if your car is stollen if you have warranty

Its sprayed on at the dealer, no panels are sprayed just the under body and engine, I also found out that if the car is stolen and written off you receive a $3000 cash payment plus $2000 in reimbursements

I was told today on sign up that they'll pay $1,000 on theft of car.(not gettin my money Ralph).

I don't understand how they can put it on at a dealership if it's that easy to put on it's that easy to remove. They also have a list of Insurance companies that will give you a discount if it's applied. None of this swayed me into having it put on.

All new HSV's have it on the entire car standard, it started with them about 12 month's ago(by my vague recolections).

Datadots are about the size of a grain of sand, made from polyester substrate, it's etched with microscopic info (VIN no.) It can be brushed or sprayed on as the dots are in a clear liquid adhesive. I think it'd be very time consuming trying to remove every dot! :ermm: Though it still makes me nervous thinking the dealer is going to spray this liquid adhesive in my engine bay! :innocent:

I think I'll ask the dealer some more questions tommorow.

Found out a little more on datadot... Datadot used to be sprayed on at the factory, well actually still is with other manufacturers (BMW, PORSCHE, HSV RALLIART)

Tickford was also involved... now this is where my dealer may be telling porkys, Ive been told that since the change to FPV datadot is not a factory option. I get the impression though he's just forgotten to order it. But maybe FPV are more interested in pumping out as many cars as possible and getting dealers to look after it till FOMOCO catch up.

So does anyone have a pic of a F6 genuine data dot on the VIN plate in the engine bay? One I saw other day had just a a blob of black pocked paint over where the data dots were supposed to be. Wondering if that's what they really look like or something dubious was up? Thanks.
