Now all the Hype has gone, life goes on and people still have jobs and dole bludgers still get the done.

It is a employee's market and this will not be changing in a hurry. Even if you are unskilled, you are in demand.

There are also many laws that will protect the worker.

I am about to start writing our enterprise agreements for my staff. I will not be taking anythign away except giving them the option to have 2 weeks a year in holidays paid out as no one ever take holidays.

It amuses me all the advertising campaigns they have at the moment attempting to scare people as a ploy to boost their member numbers.  You'd get more assistance and satisfaction out of joining a bowling club FFS.

They need no help at the moment since Howards/employer group laws have come in people are signing up...

I have 2 mates employed fixing diesel trains never been in union and they were outcast as 90% of there shop is unionised, when the news laws come in there Boss told them to join the union.

The reason why is he told them he can’t look after them anymore if orders come from there corporate office for sackings, they would be target 1st because there not in any union it’s easier to p#ss them off 1st.

Least now they feel sucure about there job and they have a say in there EB.

So if the inevitable happens what are the unions going to do? Run around flapping their arms making a bit of noise.....because that’s about all they can do now.

Tell your mates to save their money.

I think it would be a matter of untied they stand.

If one goes, they all go. If they have say 20 staff all in a union and 2 that are not, the 2 are easy to get sack without any real penalties. Yet if they are all in a union, they would need to offer volontary redundancies or negotiate a settlement.

Unions are not as powerful anymore, which is a good thing, but they are still needed in the workplace.

"A more flexible workforce" is Howard speak for desperate workers. The aim of the Howard government is to drive wages down. There will be the odd good news story, like the recent fair pay commission decision but overall the trend is to have more working poor available.

Most people who are doing ok at the moment will probably live to see their children and grandchildren with a higher mortality rate, working longer hours for less money without being able to afford to buy a home.....sounds like progress to me.

Mark me down as another old commie

Interesting tidbit the other day. Australia's labour bill (aka-wages) is the lowest it's been in 30 years. Is this expressed as an average, a percentage against earnings or what?

Come on Lumpy, this was put up for your benefit. The least you could do is abuse me even if you don’t want to argue.....

See the fair pay commission raised the minimum wage rate today - so much for the ‘unfair’ legislation. :fool:

Tis a real shame it doesn’t benefit capitalistic cops such as myself though
