I dont think anybody should be automatically entitled to a raise, just for doing their job. We have a few "clock watchers" at work and they would be the last people to get an increase in my opinion.

I believe CPI increases should be included for wage earners so that the cost of living does not get away from them.

I think generally that people that deserve to get looked after, will get looked after.

As others have said, companies are nothing without good staff. Good staff generally get the rewards.

Just a few bits of info:

You cannot be forced to sign an agreement

Yes, because I can use my Tafe qualifications and two years of self-employment as leverage? If I do not sign the agreement, I do not get a job. Simple. People with high qualifications, such as yourself (you sound like a good boss to boot) DO have the ability to bargin. Me? No chance.
There are more jobs than workers, so I think unskilled workers will have no problems getting a job.

Depends where you are talking about, I know many people have a city-centric view so you mightn't realise the lack of jobs in the 'bush'. There are many jobs in the city, that until recently were illegally low paying but were staffed by people who needed it (Uni Students and others of less than fortunate means)
We should stop the dole after 6 months and then see what happens to them.

I have been applying for jobs basically since I closed down my business, between 4 and 6 fortnight and haven't received any replies. There just aren't any jobs. What happens after 6 months? I can't afford housing or food, let alone afford to move anywhere. THEN what?

If you want to stop 'welfare' and dole bludgers, don't forget to turn back your Private School rebates, Private Health Care rebates or government assistence for farmers. There are flipside to every coin.

Cheers,

Brendan :spoton:

I am lucky because I retired 16 years ago. But to be enabled to do that I worked for my self from the age of 21. No super no penalty rates no 5 days a week. But the money was good. Some people will not be as lucky as me [ right person at the right place] so how will they manage?

I wish them all the luck the same as my grankids what a job in front of them.

if you dont like where your working, leave and get another job, it aint that hard. if you are skilled and worth your salt I resonable employer will look after you, and if they dont they aint worth working for, its not these new reforms that have come into place that have made working conditions all the more difficult. Remember the boss was a *beep* before howard changed his mind. Its only the assholes in the media who decided to rubbish new government reforms because they actually have nothing interesting to report on

LP,

I bet you could find a job if you wanted, it just might not be to your standard.

Washing dishes, packing boxes, sweeping footpaths are all jobs that pay you for a days work. Trying for jobs that are heavily applied for, should be done while you are earning a honest wage doing anything.

You could also look at starting up another business. Buy a lawnmower and knock on a few doors.

There are many ways to make money, aside from sucking on the nipple of welfare and not having to do anyhting for it.

Oh and by the way, I left school at 15 (year 10) and got a trade then decided to get out and run a business, my current business I have owned 100% for the past 13 years. I also hardly have any qualifications as I am too busy to study.

My first business was a car washing business that turned over $600 per week in cash when I was 13 and I employed 3 of my friends, it lasted 4 years.

My second was driving and cleaning boats, this lasted 4 years and turned over $4,000 per week, again employing family and friends.

Both businesses were started by me, because I could see a need and serviced that need. I never thought of them as a serious businesses, but they did make me and my firends money, and it was fun.

For anyone on the forum that thinks they have a good idea for work, I say do it, you will regret it if you do not.

Do not sit around thinking about how hard done by you are, get off your asses and better yourself.

Exactly. When I started getting the screwed around feeling from my last employer I put my fingers to work and started applying elsewhere. Within a week, I'd had 5 interviews, the first one was the one I accepted in the end.
